LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville-Yearlings Club spring lecture series will open with a fair-housing discussion and offer later programs about motivating young people and contributing to the community.

The College of Arts and Sciences’ international, diversity and outreach programs are offering the free, public discussions in partnership with the Yearlings Club.

The events run from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. the second Sunday of each month from September through April at the Yearlings Club, 4309 W. Broadway, and include light refreshments. The lecture series seeks to bring university faculty members and residents together to share expertise, discuss issues and forge common bonds.

    The spring events are:

Feb. 10 – “A Community Conversation on Fair Housing,” discussion of a 20-year action plan for fair housing in Louisville. UofL’s Anne Braden Institute for Social Justice Research, Metro Housing Coalition and Louisville Metro Human Relations Commission are partners in the project and are seeking community input on the plan.

March 10 – “Motivation/Attitude: Teaching Our Youth to ‘Reach for the Stars’,” examination of motivators and attitude adjustments that have helped UofL football develop into a major college team.

April 14 – “A Salute to University of Louisville Black Faculty and Staff,” celebration of black UofL employees for their outreach efforts. The program will include the awarding of the first Community Spirit Award for a person or group whose contributions enhanced the quality of life for community citizens. Also, the UofL African American Theater Program will present a special dramatic program.

The Yearlings Club was established in 1951 and its members include representatives from corporate, government and private organizations. The club is devoted to promoting civic responsibility, community service and leadership development.
