The play, directed by UofL professor Russell Vandenbroucke, will be performed at the Thrust Theatre, 2314 S. Floyd St.

The drama provides an eyewitness account of the death penalty in the U.S. as seen through the eyes of Prejean, a Catholic nun who became the spiritual advisor of Matthew Poncelet, a convicted rapist and murderer. According to Vandenbroucke, the play “dramatizes the impact of violence by the perpetrator on the families of his victims and in the hands of the state executing the will of its citizens.”

The book was first adapted into a film by Robbins, starring actress Susan Sarandon and actor Sean Penn.

Show tickets are $16 for the general public, $13 for faculty and staff, students and senior citizens. One dollar from each ticket sale will go to the Dead Man Walking School Theatre Project, a program that integrates theater arts and academic study into the national discourse on the death penalty.
