Sarah Nuñez, the Cultural Center’s assistant director of Hispanic and Latino Initiatives, was honored Dec. 3 at the National Society of Hispanic MBA’s Louisville Professional Networking and Awards Gala for her leadership as part of the local Louisville Latino Education Outreach Project (LLEO).

U of L’s College of Business was also honored for its work on behalf of Latino students in business.

A collaboration with the Kentucky Latino Education Alliance, LLEO focuses on fostering educational and professional success among Latinos. Nuñez and other LLEO members recently participated in the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics. Other LLEO successes include the creation of a Latino Student Resource Guide, Latino cultural awareness training for over 100 local public school educators, and increased retention rates of Latino students.

“Although I’m still new to my position at UofL, I’m so encouraged by the local community and its support of creating a strong network for students,” Nuñez said.
