Construction crews are digging up the sidewalk and part of the roadway on Brook and Floyd streets for installation of underground utility conduit. Crews soon will be doing similar work on Warnock Avenue.

The work is part of two larger construction projects. Much of the Brook Street work is tied to Belknap Engineering and Applied Sciences Research Park that is being developed south of campus. The work will include new landscaping, improved sidewalk and roadway surfaces and an entranceway at the intersection of Brook and Warnock similar to the entrance to The Oval off Third Street.

Additionally, the reopening of access from Brook Street to the Speed School parking lots is planned for later this spring.

The Floyd Street project also will lead to an improved intersection at Warnock and will include elimination of some of the power lines along that roadway from Warnock to Eastern Parkway. Landscaping and other decorative work – including the new entranceway and a fountain – will welcome westbound visitors to campus.

The projects are scheduled to be completed this summer.

Once those projects have been completed, the next phase will begin. That effort will include improvements north of Warnock on Floyd to a planned roundabout at the intersection of Cardinal and Floyd streets. It is expected to be completed in summer 2016.

The projects were funded in 2012 and 2014 with State Road Fund allocations and cannot be used for any other purposes.

UofL Today will provide additional updates throughout the course of the project.
