    DID YOU KNOW?

     

    The UofL Libraries joined the nonprofit Internet Archive in 2012 and has since added 60 works to the archive’s free database of historical collections. Collectively, these works have received nearly 20,000 page views. The most-viewed UofL-donated item to date is the G.A.R. souvenir sporting guide, a booklet describing Louisville’s prostitution houses printed for the men attending the 1895 encampment of the Grand Army of the Republic held in Louisville.

    2.) UofL Physicians hosts Huntington Disease Education Day

    Oct. 3, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Jewish Hospital Rudd Heart and Lung Center

    Free

    University of Louisville Physicians will be hosting a Huntington’s Disease Education Day. The event, co-sponsored by the Huntington’s Disease Society of America, is for patients, family and caregivers. Registration and a breakfast starts at 9 a.m., and the program will start at 9:30 a.m. Research and clinical trials will be discussed, as well as topics including memory issues, genetics and exercise and meditation for Huntington’s Disease.     Social psychologist Jonathan Haidt, PhD, will discuss What Capitalism Does to Us … and For Us at the inaugural event of the John H. Schnatter Center for Free Enterprise at the College of Business. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to hear from Haidt, who has been named one of the top global thinkers by Foreign Policy Magazine and a top world thinker by Prospect Magazine. His TED talks have garnered four million views and he’s been featured on Bill Moyers, The Colbert Report, Nightline and in many other TV, radio and print interviews.

    All women veterans, including student-veterans, active duty, National Guard, reservists, military families and widows are invited to the upcoming Brown Bag Lunch & Learn Workshop series. The topic is Share Your Stories: written, video, or audio. Guest speaker will be Lindsay Gargotto, 2015 Kentucky Female Veteran of the Year and CEO/Founder of Athena’s Sisters organization.
