3.) Communication classes for non-native English speakers
Nov. 18, Room 207, Strickler Hall
Beginning Jan. 7, the IESL program will offer an evening class in the spring semester on Tuesdays from 7 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. The class is designed to help non-native speakers of English (high-intermediate to advanced proficiency) become more effective communicators in academic, professional and social situations. Class instruction focuses on conversational fluency and strategies for professional interactions. For information, visit the IESL website or call 852-5901.

Please join the Delphi Center and Glen Garrett from iClicker for lunch and a session about iClicker/iClickerGo. iClicker is a tool that allows students to submit answers for in-class polling, and iClickerGo adds the convenience of using their smart phone or laptop as a substitute clicker. What is your web presence like? Are you only visible on Facebook, or do you have a professional online presence? If you are entering the job market (or planning early for that distant day), the answer to these questions could set you apart from other applicants. This workshop will discuss why you should consider developing an online portfolio or posting an online CV and will provide supported studio time to begin doing so. 8.) ‘Why the Past Won’t Go Away: The Crisis of History in the Age of Post-Racialism’

Khalil Gibran Muhammad, PhD, director of Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture and author of “The Condemnation of Blackness: Race Crime and the Making of Modern Urban America,” will address the present attack on historical literacy and how the past relates directly to existing race-related crises at the seventh annual Anne Braden Memorial Lecture. A book signing will immediately follow the lecture, and a reception will be held at the Anne Braden Institute.
