In light of recent campus events, this teach-in will bring together faculty, staff and students to discuss historical and political dimensions of Latin@s in the U.S. and their representations in media and popular culture. Teaching for conceptual thinking means that we foreground disciplinary concepts so that our students can see the forest (deep, conceptual understanding) through the trees (facts, information, details). This session will help you identify and think about how to foreground the fundamental and powerful concepts in your course and/or discipline and help students learn to think in new ways and to carry that learning into other contexts.
