    1.) Honor veterans

    Free

    UofL’s Office of Military and Veteran Student Services today is holding a Veterans Day program and free lunch. An Army color guard will open the event and President James Ramsey will speak. All faculty, staff and students are invited. In addition, all UofL dining venues are offering a 10 percent discount to all veterans and active military, including ROTC students, who show any form of military ID.

    2.) Celebrate 90-plus years of cooperation between Kosair Charities and UofL

    Please join Kosair Charities in a celebration of 90-plus years of partnering with the University of Louisville in service to Kosair Kids. Kosair Charities invites the UofL faculty and staff to UofL Cares Day.  This Open House event will include a complimentary light lunch, door prizes (bring your business card), campus tours and lots of opportunities to learn more about Kosair Charities and our campus partners—including UofL pediatrics, pediatric dentistry and the UofL Autism Center.

    4.) Personal care items needed at the PEACC Annual Donation Drive

    Through Dec. 8, PEACC Office

    Give some PEACC to local shelters this holiday by donating items through our office! Travel-size toiletries and sanitary care items are among the most needed items. For a complete list of helpful gifts, please go to www.louisville.edu/peacc. Items will be collected at various campus locations including the PEACC Office until December 8. A little peacc goes a long way!

    5.) University websites must upgrade to Plone 4 by December 23, 2014

    Departments have until December 23, 2014 to rebuild their websites in the upgraded Plone 4 system. The new system features tripled speed, mobile-friendly design, Adobe Flash integration and more. Register for Plone 4 training here. IT’s Design & Printing now provides services for creating, editing or migrating your Plone website using an OCM-created theme.     6.) Change in domestic long distance calling begins in January

    Beginning January 2015, domestic long distance calls made from UofL’s VoIP telephone system will no longer be prompted for an ELD authorization code. International long distance calls will continue to require authorization and will be prompted. Analog lines, such as fax machines, will continue to prompt for both domestic and international long distance calls requiring the ELD authorization code as they do today.

    8.) Panel discussion on PT presents options for students

    The College of Education and Human Development’s Office of Education Advising and Students Services and the Health and Sport Sciences program are hosting a panel discussion featuring admission representatives from physical therapy programs at Bellarmine University, University of Kentucky, and Western Kentucky University. Purpose of the panel is to give UofL students the opportunity to learn about in-state programs that will best meet their needs for a career in this field.

    9.) Physiology and Biophysics Seminar scheduled

    10.) Wellness and resilience study, parents and children (ages 8 to 13)

    Participants are needed for the Multiracial Family Wellness Project, a research study examining stress and resilience within diverse families. Study procedures include filling out questionnaires for approximately one hour. Families consisting of a child between the ages of 8 and13 and at least one parent from African-American, non-Hispanic white and biracial backgrounds are eligible to participate. Participants will be compensated $27 for their time. Flexible scheduling available. IRB #13.0

    11.) Study of relationship memories, emotion and mental health

    Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.; also weekends; Davidson Hall, Room 316

    $25 compensation

    Recruiting participants ages 19 to 30 who’ve ended a dating or cohabiting relationship in the past year and experienced many times when this ex-partner: verbally attacked, isolated or controlled you, withheld information or denied you resources. You’re ineligible if you were ever married or are experiencing current relationship violence. You’ll complete questionnaires and recall events from your past relationship. Two 1-hour visits.     12.) Physics colloquium will discuss dark matter

    Nov. 14, 3 p.m. Natural Science Building, Room 112

    Free

    In his talk, Prof. David N. Brown of the department of physics and astronomy will review the evidence for dark matter, highlight several of the theories that attempt to explain it and explain how high energy physicists search for candidate dark matter particles. Recent searches for dark photons, dark Higgs particles and related searches for low-mass charged Higgs particles that some theories predict should accompany the Higgs Boson recently discovered at the CERN laboratory will be discussed.
