HR
1.) Salary increase information sessions announced
HR will hold information sessions for anyone administering salary increases Thursday, May 14, at 2 p.m. and Tuesday, May 19, at 3 p.m. in the HR building, 1980 Arthur St. UofL faculty and staff will receive salary increases from a 3 percent pool for 2015-16. Staff raises will include a 1.5 percent cost of living adjustment, with additional compensation based on merit. Full-time and permanent part-time faculty and administrators will receive increases of 0-6 percent based entirely on merit.

Belknap Construction
2.) Warnock, Brook intersection to be shut down next week
Road construction will force the closure of the intersection of Warnock Avenue and Brook Street for the week of May 18-25. UofL faculty, staff and students who park in that area can find more information here.
Farmers Markets
3.) Gray Street Farmers Market opens today
Thursdays through Oct. 29, rain or shine, 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., 400 block of East Gray Street
The Gray Street Farmers Market returns to downtown Louisville for its seventh season today, offering fresh food, cooking demonstrations and tips for healthy living to those who live and work in Smoketown, Shelby Park, Liberty Green and the UofL Health Sciences Center area. Ten market vendors will sell fresh, locally grown vegetables and fruit, pasture-raised meat and eggs, honey, jams, baked items, flowers, plants and more. Among the items available today will be blueberries and strawberries.

4.) Open Walls exhibit opens June 4; sign up today
Exhibit June 4-26, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Photographic Archives gallery, Ekstrom Library lower level
Registration due May 28, 5 p.m.; opening reception June 4 at noon
Registration is still open for the 2015 Open Walls exhibit of artwork by UofL faculty and staff, scheduled for June 4 to 26 in the Photographic Archives gallery in the lower level of Ekstrom Library. The exhibit, which is in its fifth year, is an opportunity for faculty and staff who are not professional or exhibited artists to share their work. All media (i.e., paintings, photographs, woodworking, mixed media, fiber arts, jewelry, crafts) is accepted. Click on these links for the guidelines and the registration form. An opening reception has been scheduled for June 4 at noon.

Ride with UofL and register to win a bike! Get Healthy Now and UofL’s Sustainability Council invite you to try a cheaper, healthier cleaner and happier way to get to work! Pedal to campus and then join UofL group rides to the city’s Bike to Work Day celebration at 4th Street Live. We leave at 11:45 a.m. from Belknap’s North Info Center and HSC’s Kornhauser Library. You can also join group rides to/from work connecting downtown with Shawnee, Seneca, Iroquois or Southern Indiana. Join us rain or shine to celebrate fun, sustainable transport!

6.) Book-in-Common Reading Circle meets Tuesdays in June

Ideas to Action and the Office of First Year Initiatives will be hosting a reading circle to read the UofL Book-in-Common, “This I Believe.” Please join us for this reading circle meeting Tuesday mornings in June. We have copies of the book for those who commit to attending three of the four sessions. Participants will read and discuss about 12 essays each week. Essays include Be Cool to the Pizza Dude and The 50% Theory of Life. Authors include Helen Keller, Martha Graham and Bill Gates.

9.) UofL Physicians Better Breathers Club meets today

The Better Breathers Club, a support group for people with COPD, will feature Dr. Hiram Rivas-Perz this month speaking on Smoking and the Lung. The topic will explore the negative effects of smoking on the lung and programs to help you stop smoking. We will also provide updates on pulmonary research projects at UofL. Light snacks and beverages will be available.
