    1.) TARC bus detours through Aug. 1 due to Floyd Street road closure

    Summer detours around the Floyd St. closure have been established for TARC Route 94 (Cardinal Shuttle), and TARC Route 18, which provides UofL’s free, frequent shuttle service between HSC and Belknap campuses, as well as connections to Valley Station, Dixie Hwy, Preston Hwy, Okolona, Jefferson Mall and UPS Worldport. Route 18 passengers will be able to access Belknap campus from different stops during the detour which travels along Cardinal Blvd, 3rd St, Eastern Pkwy, Hahn St., and Warnock Ave.

    2.) SAC renovations begin

    The SAC renovation is getting underway. Construction is beginning on the SAC east first floor. The east entryway will remain open as the renovations continue. Through June 10, there will be temporary partitions installed on the interior of the east entrance. There will also be a temporary fence on the exterior of SAC East between the building and Floyd Street.

    3.) Digital Media Academy showcase features projects by middle school girls

    June 17, 1 p.m.-2:30 p.m., Ekstrom Library, Chao Auditorium

    Mark your calendar for a showcase of digital media projects created by Louisville middle school girls who have spent two weeks doing image manipulation and video editing to learn how to “Hack Your Play” and design entertainment media. Sponsored by the English Department, the Digital Media Academy will offer the technological means, and girls from JCPS schools will provide the creativity and curiosity to re-envision how girls are represented in entertainment media.

    5.) Mindfulness without the Woo Woo at HSC

    4 Wednesdays: July 6 – July 27, 12- 1:15 p.m., Room 2002, Nursing School K Building, Health Sciences Center; Free for employees, spouses and QAs

    Beyond simply decreasing your stress, this evidence-based KORU workshop will help you learn skills to find more satisfaction in your daily life. The course is designed to help you learn mindfulness through the practice of specific skills that calm and focus your mind and through the practice of meditation. Beginners and experienced meditators welcome.

    7.) Volunteers needed for dissertation study

    316 Davidson Hall, Belknap Campus

    Mentally and physically healthy women, ages 18-40, are needed for a dissertation study on stress, emotion and the immune system. This study aims to better understand how stress and emotions are connected to health. No chronic conditions, current psychiatric diagnoses or medications (birth control OK). Single 2-hour afternoon visit on Belknap campus. Eligible participants will be entered into a lottery for one of two $50 Visa prepaid cards. Please email for full eligibility criteria.

    Alicia Kelso is the director of social media and digital content. She joined UofL in 2015 as director of communications at the Brandeis School of Law.
