5.) Annual Leave Reconciliation information available
Attention Employees: The Annual Leave Reconciliation process will soon be here. The reconciliation process ensures that employees do not carry forward more than two times the amount which the employee is currently eligible to accrue. The carry forward balance cannot exceed 330 vacation hours for full-time employees on a 37.5 hours per week schedule and 352 vacation hours for employees with 40 hours per week schedule. The last day for employees to use leave is June 30, 2016. Annual Leave Reconciliation guidelines are posted on the HR ‘Items of Interest’ webpage.

6.) Priority services for St. Catharine College students
St. Catharine College announced last week the school will close in July. In order to help students affected by this difficult decision, UofL will waive application and orientation fees and expedite applications and course work pre-evaluations for those interested in transferring or enrolling here. If you know of any St. Catharine College students interested in joining the Louisville Cardinal family, please direct them to the Office of Admissions for assistance.

7.) Scholarship opportunity available for UofL student parents
UofL student-parents currently enrolled in the College of Arts & Sciences can apply for the Ann T. Allen Scholarship. The deadline to apply is June 17 for the fall semester.

A group of seven students and two faculty members from the College of Education are attending the UFHRD 2016 Conference in Manchester, England. The trip began June 3 and they return on June 13. 9.) “And there’s the Humor of it: Shakespeare and the Four Humors” on display at Kornhauser Library
Kornhauser Library; Free
Examine the intersection of medical theory and literature with the exhibition “And there’s the humor of it: Shakespeare and the four humors.” These four bodily humors – blood, yellow bile, black bile, and phlegm – were understood by Shakespeare, and generations before him, to define people’s physical and mental health, and to determine individual’s personality, as well. See this exhibition to learn more about the language of the four humors and their influence in Shakespeare’s plays.

Recently hired lab employees who work with chemicals should attend the Lab Safety/Hazardous Waste session. Individuals who will begin working with or around radioactive materials should attend the Radiation Safety Orientation session, which starts immediately after Lab Safety. 11.) Mindfulness without the Woo Woo at HSC

Beyond simply decreasing your stress, this evidence-based KORU workshop will help you learn skills to find more satisfaction in your daily life. The course is designed to help you learn mindfulness through the practice of specific skills that calm and focus your mind and through the practice of meditation. Beginners and experienced meditators welcome.

13.) Childhood obesity in children 10 to less than 14 year olds

The UofL Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit at Kosair Children’s Hospital is conducting a research study to evaluate the effect of an investigational product on childhood obesity. White and African American male and female subjects 10 to less than 14 years old who are overweight, obese or normal weight may be eligible. If a child qualifies to participate, he or she will receive the product or placebo and study related care at no cost. Compensation will be provided for time/travel.

14.) Autism study for children 4 to 10 years old

The UofL Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit at Kosair Children’s Hospital is conducting a clinical research study to evaluate how a medication treats abnormal EEG’s without seizures, as well as behavioral and neurological symptoms, in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). If a child qualifies to take part in this research study, he/she will receive the study medication or placebo and study-related care at no cost. 15.) Women ages 51-65 needed for HPV research study

Diane Harper, MD, of the UofL Department of Family and Geriatric Medicine, is conducting a study on a therapeutic vaccine that may help clear HPV types 16 and 18. Women between 51-65 years old who are HPV 16/18 positive, or with High Risk HPV may be eligible. Study-related procedures (gynecological exams, vaccine, blood and urine samples) are provided at no cost during seven visits. Participants will be compensated per visit.
