On July 1, the University of Louisville is joining the Atlantic Coast Conference! Between now and then, UofL Today is bringing you a few tidbits every day about the 14 other ACC schools. Later, we will use this spot for daily morsels of information about UofL.
Did you know … Syracuse University, in central New York, has more than 21, 000 total students. The university-owned radio station, WAER, launched the careers of broadcasters Ted Koppel and Bob Costas, and 80 students a semester operate the station. It offers listeners play-by-play broadcasts of all university basketball, football and lacrosse games, as well as news and evening jazz. Click here for more.

1.) Plone 4 deadline extended through December 2014
We understand everyone has been working diligently to meet the July 1 migration deadline. In support of departments experiencing difficulty meeting this goal, IT is extending Plone 3 support. Departments requiring time beyond December must request an exception by contacting Sherry Roark. The university’s Plone 3 environment is reaching end of life and there is an urgent need for this change. IT cannot guarantee the stability of the Plone 3 system and website beyond December.
Additional Information: Departments needing assistance with creating, editing or migrating a Plone website using an OCM created theme may request assistance from IT Design and Print by contacting Shelia Marable.

4.) Green Tip: Travel smart, fly less!
Summer travel season is here, but there are ways to get there without destroying our planet. Flying causes up to 10 times more pollution per passenger-mile than ground-based options. It accounts for 8 percent of UofL’s total carbon footprint. Consider greener, less sardine-like options: video- or teleconference; carpool; take the train or bus (Megabus, Miller and Greyhound all serve Louisville). If you must fly, offset your emissions by investing in local forests through the Appalachian Carbon Partnership.
