    DID YOU KNOW?

    UofL’s Archives & Special Collections has put together a display honoring Muhammad Ali in the cases on Ekstrom’s 1st Floor West. Included are photos of then-Cassius Clay, Jr. in Louisville 1963, and “GOAT: Greatest of All Time: a tribute to Muhammad Ali,” an 800-page, 75-pound book with more than 3,000 images. The book was purchased to commemorate Ekstrom Library’s 2 millionth volume.

    1.) Open Walls faculty and staff art exhibit begins Monday

    June 13-30; opening reception June 13, noon

    The sixth annual Open Walls staff and faculty art exhibit begins June 13, featuring 30 artists from a variety of departments across campus. The exhibit runs through June 30 and is held at Ekstrom Library, East Wing, Lower Level.

    2.) Student Affairs Summer Academy 2016 scheduled

    July 14, 8:30 a.m. – 4:15 p.m., Student Activities Center, Belknap Campus; $10 for non-Student Affairs professionals, (free for Student Affairs staff and graduate assistants)

    The fee includes lunch, access to the keynote speaker and breakout sessions, handout materials, as well as the day’s themed gifts. Registration will be paid via IUT. If you are presenting at Summer Academy, you may attend free. The conference theme is “Lighting the Future: Passing the Torch” and will feature opportunities to build and strengthen relationships throughout the day.

    3.) UofL hosting stroke symposium June 24

    June 24, 7:30 a.m. breakfast; 7:55 a.m., program, Churchill Downs, 700 Central Ave.; Free for UofL physicians, nurses, students, residents and fellows; $40 for other physicians; and $25 for all others

    Organized by the UofL Physicians Stroke Team, the multidisciplinary forum features local and national experts and the latest information in stroke care, including imaging, thrombectomy and telestroke. CME and CEU credits are available. Dr. Kerri Remmel, a neurologist with UofL Physicians, chair of the Department of Neurology at the UofL School of Medicine and director of the Stroke Center at UofL Hospital, is leading the event, which also includes speakers from the UofL School of Medicine, Stanford Medical Center and UT Southwestern Medical Center. The event will wrap up at 12:30 p.m., with lunch immediately following.

    The Department of Microbiology and Immunology Seminar Series presents a PhD dissertation, “In vivo monitoring of therapeutic efficacy and virulence profile by bioluminescent Klebsiella pneumoniae,” by Ramy Fodah, PhD candidate in the lab of Jonathan Warawa, PhD.

    6.) Who says fitness can’t be fun? Functional Fitness class available

    Saturdays, 9:30-10:15 a.m., Get Healthy Now Wellness Center, Humana Gym; Free for GHN Wellness Center members

    This class focuses on core fitness that can easily translate into daily activities and incorporates all of the major muscle groups as well as the muscles you never knew you had. You will get efficient quality functional movements that will enhance and nourish your spine, revitalize your postural muscles and strengthen your core with every movement. Exercises are shown at different skill levels so each person can work to their own individual competency.

    7.) Kick it up a notch with Get Healthy Now’s Cardio Kick & Sculpt

    Fridays, 5:30-6:30 p.m., Get Healthy Now Wellness Center at Humana Gym; Free for GHN Wellness Center members

    Join GHN for an action-packed workout that improves strength, muscle tone, endurance, and help you stick to your fitness goals and include interval training exercises that will have you shredding calories. All moves are modified based on fitness level.

Pearle, MD, PhD, Professor with joint appointments in UT Southwestern Medical Center’s Department of Urology and the Mineral Metabolism Center, and holder of the Ralph C.
