    1.) Gray Street: Music by Wolf Holler and chow chow by Nanny

    Thursdays through Oct. 29, rain or shine, 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., 400 block of East Gray Street

    Some items available today will include: Tomato pie, corn, beets, cabbage, broccoli, onions, kale, squash, zucchini, tomatoes, green beans, yellow wax beans, cucumbers, sunflowers, berries, chicken, ground beef, pork, honey, maple syrup, whole-grain bread, sourdough beer pretzel baguettes, blueberry lemon bread, caramel granola bars, Kentucky kettle corn. Also, homemade soaps, scrubs, lotions, lip balms, laundry butters. Guest vendor Nanny’s Chow Chow offers a condiment made with a recipe that’s been in Gloria Brownlee’s family for more than 150 years. Lunch trucks: Red Clover (local catering company) and Sweet ‘N’ Savory (crepes, smoothies, gelato, frozen coffee).

    Thursdays through Oct. 15, rain or shine, 3:30 to 6 p.m., 3rd and Brandeis next to the Ville Grill.

    Some items available today will include: Blueberries, raspberries, kale, lettuce, onions, radishes, salad mix, mustard greens, Swiss chard, yellow squash, zucchini, beet greens, cauliflower, local honey, a variety of homemade breads, granola, lamb, chicken, eggs, pork, kettle corn, fresh-brewed iced tea, lemon shakeups, homemade jellies and jams. Also wind chimes, hanging birds and ugly toe flip flops; toxic-free home and personal-use products.

    3.) Cards Under the Stars: ‘Big Hero 6’

    July 10, 6:30 p.m., on the lawn between the Natural Sciences Building and Grawemeyer Hall, movie begins at dusk

    Free admission

    Grab a blanket, lawn chairs and a cooler and bring the family for a screening of the film “Big Hero 6.” Let the kids enjoy our inflatable park and games, “Big Hero 6” photo area and other activities. Bring a picnic or purchase concessions from Mangia and POLLO food trucks.  And don’t forget, Cards Under the Stars returns July 24 with the 2015 live-action film “Cinderella.”

    5.) Call for poster judges for the 2nd Midwest Membrane Trafficking and Signaling Symposium

    July 24, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., CTR 101/102

    The co-organizers of the 2nd Midwest Membrane Trafficking and Signaling Symposium are looking for poster judges. The poster session will be held in the CTR lobby from 11:30-1:30 pm on July 24. Judges must register for the symposium by July 10 at http://ascb.org/mmtslouisvilleregistration/ and indicate that you would like to be a judge. If you have already registered and would like to be a judge, please e-mail Adriana Bankston.

    6.) Green Tip: Get back to the land this summer!

    Sustainability requires cultivating a new relationship with the Earth built on respect for the land and UofL’s offering three opportunities to do so! Today, meet farmers who care for the land and load up on healthy, local fare at the Gray St. (10:30-2) or Belknap (3:30-6) Farmers Markets. Saturday (9:30-3), join in the 39th annual butterfly count at UofL’s Horner Wildlife Sanctuary in Oldham Co. Wednesday (12-2), get your hands dirty at the next workday and harvest party at UofL’s Garden Commons.

     

    Volunteer Opportunities

    7.) KCP in need of State Fair volunteers

    Aug. 20-30; various times/shifts available

    UofL’s Kentucky Cancer Program (KCP) is in need of volunteers for the Kentucky State Fair, August 20-30. We have various shifts available for different booths and screenings. We will have the Incredible Colon exhibit, our signature Horses & Hope exhibit, Prostate Cancer Screenings, Skin Cancer Screenings and head and neck cancer screenings provided by UofL Dental School. All volunteers will receive admission and parking passes to gain entry into the fair, along with a volunteer t-shirt.

    8.) Orthopaedic Surgery

    The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery welcomes John Nyland,DPT, SCS, EdD, ATC, CSCS, FACSM, Athletic Training Program Director and Professor, Kosair Charities College of Health and Natural Sciences, Spalding University. Dr. Nyland will lecture on Mesenchymal Stem Cell Use in Musculoskeletal Athletic Care: Where are we in 2015?
