    1.) Morning walk/run group helps beat the summer heat

    July 9 to July 30, Wednesdays and Fridays, 6:15 to 7 a.m., Get Healthy Now Wellness Center, 601 Presidents Blvd.

    Employees, retirees, spouses/QA

    Beat the heat and join Get Healthy Now on morning group walk/runs. Participants of all fitness and experience levels are welcome. We will meet on Wednesday and Friday mornings July 9 through July 30. So lace up your sneakers and meet up with the early birds. Visit our webpage to register.

    2.) Bike commute to campus from Seneca Park

    July 10, 7 a.m., Seneca Park, Rock Creek Drive at Pee Wee Reese Road (meeting place: playground at Rock Creek Drive)

    Get Healthy Now is organizing fun monthly group bike rides to campus from Seneca Park to Belknap (7.5 miles). Employees, retirees, their spouses/QA and students are welcome to ride. All experience levels welcome and all riders will receive a brief orientation and Louisville bike map. Participants must provide their own bicycle and accessories (helmet required). Waiver form required for participation.

    3.) Green Tip: Ride with Team UofL in the National Bike Challenge

    Sixty-three UofL riders have collectively pedaled over 17,500 miles in the first two months of the National Bike Challenge! Together, we’ve burned nearly a million calories, saved $10,000 on gas and kept 16,000 lbs. of pollution out of the air. All one bike ride at a time! The Challenge runs through September, so it’s not too late to join the fun, get fit, save money and cut emissions. Register now to qualify for prizes like a $400 bike shop voucher!

    4.) Undergraduate Admissions to host high school research conference

    July 15, 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., Belknap

    Undergraduate Admissions will host the National Consortium for Specialized Secondary Schools of Mathematics, Sciences, and Technology’s Student Summer Research Conference. Conference participants are from all regions of the U.S. This is an opportunity to showcase for attendees what is great about UofL and our city. Each student will present their research either through a poster session or oral presentation. Please stop by to hear what these young people have discovered. Schedule is as follows: 8 to 9:30 a.m. Poster Session/Strickler Lobby; 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Research Presentations/Davidson Hall, 12:45 to 4:15 p.m. Research Presentations/Davidson Hall.

    5.) DEHS announces availability of chemical waste container labels

    DEHS encourages the reuse of empty chemical containers to collect chemical and hazardous waste. Containers should be in good condition and rinsed. Chemical waste to be collected should be compatible with container type and previous label completely removed or defaced. To assist lab personnel in meeting EPA and state hazardous waste labeling requirements, DEHS is offering free chemical waste container labels. To obtain labels, personnel can visit the Radiation Safety Office. Limit five per person.

    7.) Registration open for Project Management Certificate program

    Earn your project management certificate from UofL Professional Development by December. This two-seminar program is based on the processes and knowledge areas in the Project Management Institute’s “A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge.” The first seminar begins August 14.     8.) Register for the 14th Annual UofL Geriatric Health Care Symposium

    Sept. 19, 7:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., Seelbach Hilton, 500 S. Fourth St.

    Symposium provides up-to-date training and skills in geriatric care for health care providers and all interested in the care of elders. This year’s theme is prevention and will offer expert training on topics ranging from prevention of commonly overlooked geriatric care issues, such as advance directives and medications, and geriatric educational topics, such as immunizations and the latest developments in dementia.
