2.) Get Healthy Now offering stop-smoking classes on Belknap

Free to UofL employees, retirees and their spouse/qualifying adult
GHN’s smoking cessation classes use the Cooper-Clayton Method, a comprehensive, science-based behavioral program that uses proven methods to help you quit. Participants use nicotine replacement products (patch, lozenges, gum, etc.) and get the support they need to successfully quit in 13 weeks. 3.) Cancer center also offering free stop-smoking classes
Make 2014 the year you kick tobacco for good. The Brown Cancer Center Resource Center will offer a free 13-week program that combines nicotine gum, patches or lozenges with support and modification in a supportive group setting. Free nicotine products provided the first 6 weeks. IT will perform a network upgrade during the regular preventive maintenance period preventing access to all major enterprise systems, including Blackboard, email, instant messaging, PeopleSoft, ULink, SharePoint, voice and data services and VPN. 7.) Volunteer judges needed for 50th Louisville Regional Science and Engineering Fair
9 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.; 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. March 8, Multi-purpose Room, Student Activities Center
Volunteer your expertise and time with a team of two to five judges to meet and encourage independent research by Kentucky students from the 13 counties surrounding Louisville. Registration is now open. If you served as an LRSEF judge in 2012 or 2013, your data is already in our 2014 file. Login to indicate your preferences and verify your qualified categories. Your efforts will make an impact on the future pipeline of area students into the STEM fields of science.

8.) Registration open for 2014 Celebration of Teaching and Learning
8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Feb. 7, Founders Union Building, Shelby Campus
This year’s theme is “Igniting the Spark: Motivating Student Learning.” Join your faculty colleagues as we explore teaching methods to boost student motivation. Ken Bain, PhD, author of What the Best College Teachers Do, will give the keynote. Other highlights include concurrent sessions led by UofL faculty and an afternoon plenary session with Mike Tunnell and Kent Hatteberg. 2012-13 Faculty Favorite nominees and the 2013-14 Paul Weber Award winner will be recognized during lunch. Bain also will lead two pre-celebration workshops on Thursday, Feb. 6. Learn more and register here.

Psi Chi will sponsor a Kaplan-conducted GRE workshop, lunch and practice exam. Registration is open to anyone interested in attending graduate school. 11.) Pain study for infants and toddlers less than 2 years of age

The UofL Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit at Kosair Children’s Hospital is conducting a clinical research study to evaluate acetaminophen given into a vein to treat moderate to severe pain in infants and children less than 2 years of age following surgery or an injury. The UofL Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit at Kosair Children’s Hospital is conducting a clinical research study to evaluate the safety and dose response of an investigational drug used to treat high blood pressure. Children from 6 through 11 years of age diagnosed with high blood pressure may be eligible for participation. Subjects will be compensated for time and travel. The UofL Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit at Kosair Children’s Hospital is conducting a clinical research study to evaluate the safety and dose response of a drug given orally prior to a scheduled surgery that is used to prevent post-operative nausea and vomiting. Children from birth to 17 years of age may be eligible for participation. Subjects may be compensated for time and travel.
