    DID YOU KNOW

    Two Speech-Language Pathology graduate students in the Department of Otolaryngology received awards at 2017 American Speech-Language-Hearing Association convention in Los Angeles. Alexandra Birmingham received the 2017 National NSSLHA Member Honors Excellence Award and Bradley Kimbel was awarded the 2017 Graduate Student Scholarship from ASHA Foundation.

     

     

    Faculty and staff notables

    Susan Peters, CEHD associate professor in the Department of Middle and Secondary Education, was selected as one of the 2016 outstanding reviewers for the “Journal of Research in Mathematics Education.” Additionally, she has been invited to serve as an associate editor on the editorial board of the “Statistics Education Research Journal,” a top research journal in statistics education.

    Reminder: The UofL Women’s Network is hosting a holiday gathering this Thursday. Light refreshments will be served.     Shari Gater visitation and memorial

    December 6, 4-8 p.m.

    Visitation will be at Arc L Heady Funeral Home on Westport Road Wednesday, December 6 from 4-8 p.m. The funeral service will take place at the funeral home, Thursday, December 7 at 10 a.m., followed by a procession to Resthaven Cemetery where Shari will be laid to rest. Open to public. Gater was the administrative associate in the Department of Comparative Humanities.

    The Department of Microbiology and Immunology Seminar Series presents Dr. Kami Kim, MD, “Host and Parasite Factors that Contribute to Cerebral Malaria Pathogenesis.” Kim is a Professor of Internal Medicine within the division of Infectious Diseases & International Medicine at the Morsani School of Medicine at the University of South Florida.

    iRIS grant submission training offered by Office of Research Integrity

    “An Introduction to Grant Submissions in iRIS” aims to provide an understanding of getting into the iRIS system and navigating through the eProposal form and Sponsor Packets. The target audience is staff and faculty who plan to seek funding through any granting agency. Training for units as a group is also available, on request.

    Partnership for a Green City Tip 14 – Heating and Energy Efficiency

    According to the Commercial Building Energy Consumption Survey, about 51 percent of the gas and electric used in schools and office buildings goes to heating, ventilation and air conditioning throughout the year. Use the sun for free heat – open the curtains or shades on your south-facing and west-facing windows during winter days to bring free heat into your home. Close your window coverings when the sun goes down to keep the heat inside.
