    UofL’s Logistics and Distribution Institute (LoDI) recently received a $1 million gift of equipment and technology that will help it develop the next generation of engineers. Advanced Solutions Inc., a Louisville-based software marketing and service company, provided the gift, which included the installation of interactive SMART Board technology and software designed to enhance.     The annual Belknap Campus Ice Cream Social will be held August 29 from 2 to 4 p.m., on the courtyard of Grawemeyer Hall. It will feature Comfy Cow ice cream.

    2.) UofL Alert system to undergo testing Aug. 30

    Aug. 30, 10 a.m.

    UofL officials will test the UofL Alert system at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30. All features in the system, including emails, text messages, VoIP phones and outdoor warning speakers, will be part of the testing. No actions should be taken in response to the test.

    Please join us for an eyes-closed experience of art. An artist performance by Carmen Papalia, as programming to accompany the Let’s Keep in Touch exhibition at Gallery X in Schneider Hall. The show is a completely tactile art exhibition challenging the visual primacy of art institutions.

    The last day to apply for a 2016-17 TILL Faculty Learning Community is Friday, August 26. By participating, you will have the opportunity to embrace unique teaching and learning topics, try out teaching innovations, assess the impact on student learning and present and publish scholarship about your work. Topics for 2016-17 include active learning, adaptive learning, innovation and creativity, and enhancing learning with technology.

    9.) Final call for applications: 2016-2017 seminar on teaching for new faculty

    Sponsored by the Office of the Provost and the Delphi Center for Teaching and Learning, this year-long cohort program is designed to jump-start new faculty members’ teaching careers by providing a foundation of research-based principles about how learning works. A cohort of 8 to 12 junior faculty members will meet six times during the academic year to explore and apply the findings of learning theory to their teaching at UofL.

    Dr. Victor van Berkel, MD, PhD, surgical director of the Lung Transplant Program at UofL and division chief of Thoracic Surgery at the School of Medicine, will speak on “Too many nodules – Using breath analysis as a better way to diagnose lung cancer.”

    Take advantage of the chance to partner with a Get Healthy Now wellness coach intern who will help you work toward any health behavior change. You will meet with the coach one hour a week for eight weeks. Our interns have successfully completed a semester of intensive coach training and are closely supervised by a certified coach.
