    There’s a new hourly pay lot on the Belknap Campus for guests and visitors that is particularly useful for event parking. It’s located at 4th Street and Cardinal Boulevard, which is a great location for departments sponsoring events or activities on campus. Payment is by credit card only; customers pay as they exit.

    1.) Theatre Arts seeking performers/collaborators

    Sept. 3, 5:30 p.m., Thrust Theatre Building

    Theatre Arts is seeking performers, writers and other collaborators interested in working on an upcoming production about issues of race, housing, segregation and community policing from 1954 to present day as part of the Anne Braden Institute’s commemoration of the Wade home purchase and Braden sedition case. The play, which will include a trial reenactment, will also serve as an opportunity to discuss the recent events in Ferguson, Missouri, and related issues in the Louisville community.

    2.) Mammogram screening this month for UofL employees

    Sept. 26, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Gottschalk Circle, next to Shumaker Research Building

    Insurance will be billed. UofL insurance covers 100 percent.

    Is it time for your annual mammogram? UofL’s Kentucky Cancer Program is pleased to bring the mobile mammography van back to Belknap Campus for women 40 years old and over. Mammograms will be provided by the James Graham Brown Cancer Center, a part of KentuckyOne Health. KCP and UofL Women’s Center will be onsite with information.     3.) Retention initiative focuses on using SAGE to aid students

    REACH is encouraging all faculty teaching 100–200 courses to use SAGE to aid students experiencing academic or personal difficulties. SAGE is an early warning system that allows faculty to instantly schedule instructor meetings and to recommend tutoring and/or advising to a single student or large groups of students in academic need.     4.) Free retirement planning workshops scheduled for Belknap, HSC

    The Kentucky Academy of Science celebrates 100 years of science at the Centennial Meeting Nov 14 to 16. Highlights include Keynote Speakers addressing the past, present and future of science in Kentucky; a symposium on Scientific Communication; the Academy’s history; field trips; scientific papers and posters. Abstract Submission deadline is Sept 22. Preregistration deadline is Oct 20.

    6.) Satisfy your lunar craving on Observe the Moon Night

    Sept. 6, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., Gheens Science Hall and Rauch Planetarium

    Free

    Join the Gheens Science Hall and Rauch Planetarium and Louisville Astronomical Society (LAS) in celebrating the International Observe the Moon Night. The evening begins at 7:30 p.m. with a ride in the planetarium’s virtual spaceship to get up close and personal with our nearest neighbor, the moon. At 8:30 p.m., LAS members will have telescopes set up in the courtyard for live observing. Don’t worry if Mother Nature doesn’t cooperate—the exploration can continue in the dome.

Dr. Roman will present: A Department Comes to Age: Strategies for Addressing the Needs of Those We Serve, focusing on defining the status of the department of medicine, discussing the health needs of our patients and defining strategies for addressing our patients’ health needs.

    Dr. Kathrin LaFaver, assistant professor, UofL Department of Neurology, will present Dystonia at September’s Movement Disorders Video Rounds. 1 CME or 1.2 CEU credit is available for physicians and nurses who attend. This event is interactive and attendees can send their videos to Dr. LaFaver here, or bring them to video rounds on a flash drive as long as patient consent has been obtained.
