1.) Cards Under the Stars: Come see Monsters University on Friday

UofL’s free family movie night series returns for 2014! The first outdoor movie of the summer will be Monsters University. The event begins with entertainment and the film begins at dusk. Activities include children’s inflatables and games, as well as music by Sonablast recording artist Heidi Howe. Concessions will be available for purchase from Holy Mole Taco Truck. Patrons are welcome to bring picnic baskets, coolers, lawn chairs and blankets.

2.) Get ready for the annual designer eyewear trunk show next month
June 19, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Kentucky Lion’s Eye Center, 301 E. Muhammad Ali Blvd.
The optical shop of UofL Physicians – Eye Specialists will hold its annual Designer Eyewear Trunk Show in the atrium of the Kentucky Lion’s Eye Center at 301 E. Muhammad Ali Blvd. on the UofL Health Sciences Campus. Frames from brands such as Michael Kors, Calvin Klein, Nautica, Nike, Nine West and more will be available at big savings. All frames will be 50 percent off with the purchase of any complete pair of prescription eyewear, and all nonprescription sunglasses will be 25 percent off. Shoppers can also benefit from the experience of UofL Physicians’ master optician to find just the right glasses.

3.) Administrative offices under the EVPRI are moving this week
The following administrative support divisions under the Office of the EVPRI will be moving to The Nucleus Building in downtown Louisville during the week of May 26: Office of Industry Engagement, Office of Sponsored Programs Administration and the Office of Technology Transfer (OTT).

4.) Surplus warehouse on limited schedule
Surplus Warehouse, 1901 S. Floyd St.
The Surplus Warehouse will be on a limited schedule until the end of June. The warehouse will be open 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. for department selection on May 28 and June 11 but closed all other Wednesdays starting immediately. Departments may continue to send items to Surplus during this period.

5.) Belknap research park construction will be noisy
Offices on the south end of Belknap Campus may experience noise issues over the next month as construction picks up on the research park south of Speed School of Engineering. Crews will be pile driving piers for bridges. Water main extension work also will continue on Brook Street under the Eastern Parkway overpass.
6.) Green Tip: Bike to work Friday, you could win a bike!

Join UofL and Metro Louisville in celebrating Bike to Work Day on Friday. UofL participants meet at Tyler Park at 7:30 a.m., with groups leaving for both Belknap and HSC. You can also join group rides to downtown from Shawnee, Seneca, Iroquois or Southern Indiana (across the newly opened Big Four Bridge). Come early for ride support, mingling and refreshments. Join us rain or shine to celebrate healthy, sustainable transportation. Register and you can enter a raffle to win a new bicycle.

7.) Cardinal Junior Tennis Camps
June 16 to Aug. 1, U of L Bass-Rudd Tennis Center, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The University of Louisville proudly offers young tennis players a high quality opportunity to come to a college campus to learn, improve, make new friends and have fun. Each camper is instructed for at least six hours per day in a very positive way by experienced coaches who know and play the game at the top level. Children of U of L staff receive a discount on the camp fee. There are four camps from June 16 to Aug 1, including an overnight camp July 20 to 25.

8.) Space engineering camp for grades 7 to 9
June 16 to 20, Gheens Science Hall and Rauch Planetarium
$180 UofL affiliates/$150 family members
The planetarium’s Space Engineering Camp grades 7 to 9 is just the thing to keep kids engaged in learning. Hands-on activities such as building constellations, designing a space outpost, having solar car races, making rockets and using probes and other technology make this an exciting camp for teenagers.

9.) CEHD technology and writing camp for grades 4 to 8
July 14 to 18; 9 a.m. to 2:45p.m., Porter Building, Belknap

The “You’ve Got the Write One” camp is intended for students (rising 4th to rising 8th graders) who would enjoy an interdisciplinary academic enrichment experience incorporating technology and writing. Participants in this summer enrichment camp will work in small groups led by practicing teachers and teacher education candidates. Campers will create multiple literacy-based projects, participate in technology-oriented learning experiences and spend a day at the Frazier History Museum.

10.) Girl Scouts, UofL offer STEM day camp for grades 9 to 12
July 7 to 11
Imagine Your STEM Future is a day camp for girls entering grades 9 to 12. It is a collaborative event between Girl Scouts of Kentucky and UofL. Camp will take place at Girl Scouts headquarters July 7, 8, 9 and 11 and on the UofL campus July 10. Anyone in STEM fields who would like to volunteer to share your career stories or current research with the girls contact Nora Honken, nbhonk01@louisville.edu.
