UofL winter commencement set for Dec. 13

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – More than 1500 students are expected to graduate from the University of Louisville this semester and 875 of those graduates plan to participate in the university’s Dec. 13 winter commencement ceremony at 7 p.m. in Freedom Hall, Kentucky Exposition Center.

UofL President James Ramsey will preside at the event and nursing major Kaelin Gatewood will be the student speaker.

An honorary degree (doctor of humane letters, honoris causa) will be presented to Heddy Kurz, who along with her late husband, Herman Kurz, has been a longtime supporter of UofL and higher education. Kurz will attend the ceremony.

A 3 p.m. doctoral hooding ceremony will precede the main commencement ceremony.

Parking at Freedom Hall will be free for graduates and their families.

The KFC Yum! Center, which has been used for previous graduation ceremonies, could not be used for winter commencement because the center is hosting the NCAA volleyball finals.
