LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A University of Louisville College of Business student team will compete next month in the national round of a global financial analysis competition.

MBA students Chip Hockenbury, Ross Mayfield, Cipriana Prepeliuc and Geoff Tinnell won the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute Research Challenge regional contest in Louisville Tuesday. They now advance to CFA’s Americas Regional contest in Atlanta April 15-16.

Judges in Tuesday’s contest at the Pendennis Club said UofL’s team did the best job of preparing and presenting an equity analysis report for Stock Yards Bank. Teams from Indiana University, the University of Kentucky and five other schools vied for first place at the event.

The CFA Institute develops ethics and practice standards for financial analysts and offers certification in the field. More than 800 universities in 55 countries take part in its annual student competition, which is designed to give budding financial analysts hands-on experience.
