The University of Louisville will lead patrons down the yellow brick road to close out its Cards Under the Stars outdoor summer movie series.

“Oz the Great and Powerful” will be shown Saturday, Aug. 17 on the Natural Sciences Lawn near the corner of Third Street and Eastern Parkway.

The free, public event will begin with inflatable rides, children’s activities, mascots and music at 6:30 p.m. The movie will begin at dusk.

Patrons are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, coolers and picnic baskets. Sodexo will sell hamburgers, hot dogs, soft drinks and other food on site.

“Oz the Great and Powerful” is the story of Oscar Diggs, a small-time magician who is swept away to an enchanted land and is forced into a power struggle between three witches. Putting his magic to use through illusion, ingenuity – and even a bit of wizardry – Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz, but into a better man. The movie, rated PG, stars James Franco, Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams and Rachel Weisz.

The event is sponsored by UofL’s Great Places to Work Initiative.
