LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Kentucky Pollution Prevention Center, part of the University of Louisville’s J.B. Speed School of Engineering, has received a national honor from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for the fourth consecutive year.
Last month in Washington, D.C., the KPPC was recognized with a 2014 Energy Star Partner of the Year ’ Sustained Excellence Award. The center was selected for its continued leadership in helping commercial and industrial facilities build self-sustaining energy management systems.
KPPC won the same award in 2013 and claimed Energy Star Partner of the Year Awards in 2011 and 2012.
The EPA introduced its Energy Star partnership program in 1992 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through increased energy efficiency. Other Kentucky recipients of 2014 awards were the Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America Inc. operation in Erlanger, Kenton County School District in Fort Wright and Kentucky School Boards Association in Frankfort.
KPPC provides technical information and assistance to help the state’s businesses, industries and school districts stay environmentally sustainable and competitive while cutting energy costs.
KPPC acting director Lissa McCracken said that she’s particularly pleased with this year’s honor because it recognizes “sustained excellence.”

Jean Lupinacci, chief of the EPA’s Energy Star Commercial and Industrial Branch, said the KPPC’s application for the award stood out among a highly competitive pool of submissions.
“Your dedication to saving energy, your commitment to measuring and tracking progress and your efforts to communicate the importance of energy efficiency to a broad audience distinguishes your organization as an energy leader,” she said.
