LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Organizer Richard Luce, Jr. decided the show must go on. The sixth annual Cruzin’ for Cancer event will take place Saturday, Aug. 29, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Gethsemane Baptist Church, 10400 Blue Lick Rd. The event raises funds to support cancer research, education and patient support at the University of Louisville.

“I didn’t want to go a year without helping,” Luce said. “The show has grown tremendously over the last six years. We want to keep up the momentum and continue to increase awareness of cancer prevention, treatment and to support the work being done at UofL.”

Cruzin’ for Cancer 2020 will feature a car show along with funnel cakes, a food truck, raffles and the Kentucky Cancer Program (KCP) mobile mammography van. Masks will be provided by UofL Health and attendees will have a chance to meet UofL cancer researcher Levi Beverly, Ph.D., who will talk about cancer myths and his work in cancer research with the ToTOl Lab. Admission to the show is free but donations are appreciated.

One hundred percent of the proceeds from the day’s activities will benefit cancer research at UofL, patient support at the M. Krista Loyd Resource Center at UofL Health – James Graham Brown Cancer Center, and the Kentucky Cancer Program, which provides cancer education and prevention services. Originally scheduled for June, the event was postponed due to pandemic concerns.

Luce began the annual fundraising event after his father died from cancer in 2013. He hoped to provide funds and awareness to help in the fight against cancer.

Vendor booths, a model car show and other activities included in previous Cruzin’ for Cancer events are scheduled to be included again in next year’s event, scheduled for June 12, 2021.

Organizer Luce may be reached at cancerawareness15@yahoo.com or by voice or text at 502-802-8308.
