LOUISVILLE, Ky. — National Public Radio program host and author Farai Chideya will talk about “The Color of Our Future: Race and the Media” Jan. 27 at the University of Louisville.
Chideya’s free, public talk will begin at 1:30 p.m. at Ekstrom Library’s Chao Auditorium. The presentation will include a signing session for “The Color of Our Future,” her book about the changing racial identities of America’s teenagers. UofL’s College of Arts and Sciences is sponsoring the campus event through its diversity and community outreach office.
Chideya’s other books are “Don’t Believe the Hype: Fighting Cultural Misinformation about African Americans” and “Trust: Reaching the 100 Million Missing Voters.”
The multimedia journalist is host of National Public Radio’s “News and Notes” program, which is scheduled to end in March as a part of recently announced NPR economic cutbacks. Before joining the program, Chideya was host of a San Francisco daily call-in show, a correspondent for ABC News, anchor of Oxygen television channel’s “Pure Oxygen” primetime program and a commentary contributor to CNN, Fox, MSNBC and BET. She also has been a Newsweek magazine reporter and researcher.
Chideya will be in Louisville as keynote speaker for the Louisville/Jefferson County Metro Human Relations Commission’s 2009 Race and Relations Conference.
