MD Anderson’s Woo tapped as chair of radiation oncology at UofL

    Louisville, Ky. — Dr. Shiao Y. Woo, professor of radiation oncology and section chief of the division of central nervous system and pediatric cancers at the University of Texas – MD Anderson Cancer Center, has been appointed endowed professor and chairman of the department of radiation oncology at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. Woo will join the UofL faculty on March 1, 2010.

    “Professor Woo is an internationally recognized authority on the treatment of brain, spinal cord and pediatric cancers and adds to the University of Louisville and the James Graham Brown Cancer Center’s strengths in the neurosciences,” said Dr. Edward Halperin, dean of the UofL School of Medicine. “He is superbly trained, has obtained extensive clinical and research experience at the world-class MD Anderson Cancer Center of Houston, is widely published and serves on the board of directors of the Pediatric Radiation Oncology Society. His selection as chair, following our naming of new chairs in the departments of neurology, biochemistry and medicine, is a clear demonstration of growing national recognition of our clinical programs.”
