LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville has received $1 million from Kosair Charities to support eight health-related programs designed to benefit our most precious gift, our children.
The largest portion of funds will support the Department of Pediatrics’ Forensics Medicine team who work to identify, evaluate, document and prevent child abuse and neglect. Other programs supported include the UofL Autism Center at Kosair Charities, The Kosair Charities Fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Diseases, the Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit, the Kosair Charities Birth Defects Research Fellowship in the UofL School of Dentistry, the Kosair Charities Pediatric Surgery Research Fellowship, the division of child neurology and the maternal-fetal medicine program.
“I have said many times over the years, that the people have no better friend than the Kosair Charities,” said Dr. James Ramsey, UofL president. “Their commitment to improving the lives of our children is incredible. And their commitment to the University is amazing.”
Through the years, Kosair has provided nearly $30 million in philanthropic support to the university in its efforts to provide the highest quality health care possible to children.

In 2010, UofL formally launched the Charting our Course comprehensive campaign. With an initial goal of $750 million, the university stretched that philanthropic target to $1 billion by the end of June 2014. Funds raised are designated for academic support, scholarships and programs for students; faculty recruitment, research and professional development; infrastructure enhancements and upkeep of athletic facilities; and support of the university’s academic units and libraries. To date, more than 65,000 people and organizations have contributed more than $713 million total so UofL can continue its journey to becoming a premiere metropolitan research university and enhancing the lives of the people of Kentucky and beyond.
