LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Eco-Reps, a University of Louisville sustainability training program, has received a top award from the National Pollution Prevention Roundtable, a nonprofit group based in Washington, D.C.

Eco-Reps today was named winner of the organization’s 2014 Multimedia MVP2 Award for best video series with a major impact on preventing pollution.

The UofL program, created in 2012, offers free online video training, service opportunities and certification for faculty, staff and students who want to encourage others to adopt sustainable practices. Those seeking certification must watch six videos about energy, alternative transportation, healthy eating and other topics, read related material and take an exam.

Advanced certification is available to those who add bicycling for transportation and urban composting to their Eco-Reps study agenda.

Brian Barnes, a philosophy lecturer who sits on UofL Sustainability Council, and Justin Mog, assistant to the provost for sustainability initiatives, coordinate the program.

“Eco-Reps promotes pollution reduction on several levels, is easy to duplicate, engages the community and empowers people to be pollution-prevention leaders,” Mog said. “We’re pleased to earn recognition for this initiative.”
