UofL will show the Disney film Up Friday, July 16, on the Natural Science Lawn next to Grawemeyer Hall.
The event is free. Families are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets, picnic baskets and coolers. Activities will begin at 7:30 p.m.; the movie will begin at about 9:30 p.m.
Up is the tale of Carl Frederickson, a 78-year-old retired balloon salesman who, rather than moving to a retirement home, ties thousands of balloons to his house and heads toward Paradise Falls, the most beautiful place on earth. He inadvertently takes a passenger, 8-year-old Wilderness Explorer Russell, whose sole camping experience has been in his own living room.
Together they encounter Dug, a talking dog; Kevin, a 13-foot-tall bird thought to be extinct, and other characters that dramatically change the adventure – and Carl’s outlook on life.
The Pixar film is one of the most popular and highly acclaimed animated pictures of all time.
In addition to the movie, Cards under the Stars will include a musical performance by local artist John Gage. The Louisville based, folk singer/songwriter has made a career of entertaining audiences with his resonant tenor voice and flat-picking guitar.
The event also will include inflatable rides, bubble-blowing, contests and other activities for children and families. Concessions will be available.
Up is the second of three Cards under the Stars events. The third event will be Friday, Aug. 13. The movie has not been selected yet.
