People who think they are familiar with the play about gossip and “getting played” will be surprised by the play’s staging, which will be different from traditional presentations, said James Tompkins, the play’s director and an associate professor of theatre arts.

“The production will be a modern take on the story,” Tompkins said. “We have a cast of 22 who are looking forward to engaging the audience in the fun.”

Three cast members will participate as part of their Master of Fine Arts degree performances. They are: Lauren Street (Margaret), Jocelyn Matsuo (Beatrice) and Jake Beamer (Benedick). The UofL theatre program offers the only graduate degree for performance in Kentucky.

Performances are at 8 p.m. plus a matinee at 3 p.m., Nov. 18, in the Thrust Theatre, 2314 S. Floyd St. Tickets are $15 for the general public and $10 for faculty and staff, students and senior citizens. For tickets and information, call 502-852-6814 or visit Theatre Arts.
