Here’s an overview of its 2012–13 productions:
- “Shakin’the Mess Outta Misery” by Shay Youngblood, the story of a young black girl’s coming of age in the 1960s and the older women who influence her journey, Sept. 26–30, Thrust Theatre, Lundeana Thomas directing
- “Much Ado about Nothing,” a “with-it” production that takes liberties with William Shakespeare’s classic comedy about gossip and getting played, Nov. 14–18, Thrust Theatre, James Tompkins directing
- “Once On This Island” by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, a one-act musical based on the 1985 novel “My Love, My Love; or, The Peasant Girl” by writer Rosa Guy, Jan. 30–Feb. 3, The Playhouse, Nefertiti Burton directing
- “The White Rose” by Lillian Groag, the story of Munich students who confront Hitler’s Germany with youthful ideals and courage, Feb. 27–March 3, Thrust Theatre, Russell Vandenbroucke directing
UofL’s African American Theatre Program is producing the first and third plays of the season. Details will be announced later on a surprise collaboration directed by UofL theatre department chair Rinda Frye that is expected to wind up the season April 10–14.
All plays begin at 8 p.m. with additional 3 p.m. Sunday matinees. Season tickets are $65 for the general public, $50 for UofL employees and people age 65 and older, and $40 for students. Tickets for individual shows also are available.
