Take Back the Night, a free, public event, is 5:30 p.m.–7 p.m. Sept. 30 outside of the Red Barn, Belknap Campus. The event is offered by the Prevention, Education and Advocacy on Campus and in the Community (PEACC), a group that provides support to students, staff and faculty who are affected by dating or domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and harassment.
Project Unbreakable is a visual campaign illuminating the issues surrounding sexual violence. Brown and Siversky began their efforts through a Tumblr blog, which has grown into a national effort to raise awareness about sexual violence.
Other events during the evening will include:
- Speak-out Session, a candlelight vigil and march around campus
- Remarks by Provost Shirley Willihnganz, master of ceremonies Angie Fenton and community leaders
- Drumming, musical and poetry performances from area performers
- Display of an interactive art project called “I am unbreakable because….”
In addition to Take Back the Night evening activities, Brown and Siversky will share “The Story of Project Unbreakable” and discuss how the process of healing can be facilitated through art at 3 p.m. in the Floyd Theater, Student Activities Center. This event is also free and open to the public.
