The Human Trafficking Awareness Conference will be from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 22 in the Student Activities Center’s Multi-purpose room
Conference activities will include:
- Remarks by Carl Ralston, president and founder of Remember Nhu, an international non-profit focusing on fighting the child sex trade; Rus Funk, director of the Louisville-based organization, MensWork, which focuses on the role that men play in fighting human trafficking; and Jennifer Clinger, a survivor of human trafficking and graduate of Thistle Farms recovery program in Nashville.
- Performance by Kentucky Opera Studio artists Jill Phillips and Cory Battey of “Love is a Knife” from the opera “A Woman in Morocco.”
- Attendees will be invited to write letters of support and encouragement to survivors at Thistle Farms who are recovering from human trafficking.
Admission is free and open to the public. Register at htac2014.eventbrite.com/ to reserve a space. Light refreshments will be provided at the event. Full meals are available for purchase at Subway, Wendy’s, and Papa John’s in the Swain Student Activities Center. Parking is available in the Floyd Street Parking Garage and on the street in surrounding areas.
