The SRC received an Outstanding Sports Facility Award from the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) earlier this month at its annual conference.

The award is the the highest designation NIRSA gives out to campus recreation facilities.

The NIRSA Outstanding Sports FacilityAward recognizes state-of-the-art collegiate recreational facilities of NIRSA member institutions. In order to be eligible , the building must be no more than 2 years old, have total building costs of at least $2 million, and be more than 20,000 square feet.

The Student Recreation Center is a $37.5 million facility that opened its doors in the fall of 2013. It boasts 128,000 square feet, including six basketball courts, aerobics studios, racquetball courts and more. It is also LEED gold certified.

In addition, Dale Ramsay, director of intramural sports and recreation, received an Award of Merit at the conference.The award recognizes a professional from each region who demonstrates exceptional dedication to NIRSA or collegiate recreation.

“I am just completely humbled by this.  A lot of credit should go to my staff as well,” Ramsay said.

Ramsay has been at UofL since 1982. He was recognized for more than 30 years of service to the association.
