The event, geared to the general public and organized by UofL’s Center for Arts and Culture Partnerships with Kentucky Arts Council funding, will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the University Club on the Belknap Campus. It will offer a close-up of the state’s movie industry and present a panoramic shot of its future.
Jane Beshear, Kentucky first lady, will open the conference, and the morning keynote speaker will be Virginia Tech cinema studies professor Stephen Prince, author of 15 film-related books.
Session panelists will focus on making feature films in the state, documentaries in Kentucky, the business of film and teaching and writing about film.
Film critics, directors, producers, documentarians, writers, professors, film business executives and government officials such as Michael Mangeot, commissioner of Kentucky travel and tourism, are scheduled speakers.
The $25 registration fee for the general public includes lunch and a continental breakfast. Registration is encouraged by Sept. 25 as seating is limited; university students and faculty may attend for free if they register by Sept. 25.
