UofL recently celebrated surpassing the $1 billion goal of its Charting Our Course comprehensive campaign. When it concludes on June 30, the campaign will have reached almost $1.1 billion, including more than $27 million in gifts from faculty and staff. UofL Today will feature some of those faculty and staff in a series of interviews to run throughout the summer. The series begins today with a message from Keith Inman, vice president for university advancement.

Twenty-seven million dollars.

That’s the amount of money UofL faculty and staff contributed to the university’s Charting Our Course comprehensive campaign. The $1 billion campaign – by far the largest in UofL history – will conclude June 30. Thank you to everyone who has played a role in this effort, from donors to our dedicated development officers and the entire University Advancement staff.

I want to send a special shout out to the many faculty, staff and students who contributed to Charting Our Course.

When we began this effort seven years ago, some suggested we shouldn’t ask for financial support from our faculty and staff. After all, we know that you already contribute to the success of the university through your hard work every day.

But we realized that few people appreciate this university and the work that we do more than our own family.

So we asked for your support, and you stepped up in a big way.

You gave to the arts, to medical research, to athletics, and to student programming.  Others supported scholarships, technology enhancements and sustainability efforts.

Your contributions will help us improve the educational experience we offer for our students, the service we bring to our community and the research that can help enhance and even save the lives of citizens of our community and the world.

Once the final numbers are in later this summer, we plan to celebrate with you the success of the Charting Our Course campaign. Between now and then, we will run a series of articles to share the stories of some of your colleagues, their gifts and the difference they hope to make through their contributions.

We hope that by sharing the stories of a few of our faculty and staff, we honor all of you for your support of the campaign and of the university.

As you know, our work at the university is never complete. This campaign may be over, but UofL will continue to need your help. I hope you will join us in supporting the university, both through your continued hard work and through financial contributions, in the future.

Your support is appreciated. And your gifts do make a difference.
