The special southern trolley hop route and the exhibit are just some of the activities on campus and in the city taking place in conjunction with the Glass Art Society (GAS) conference this weekend in Louisville. The UofL glass studio art program is a conference co-sponsor.
Here are some of the activities:
Wednesday, June 9:
- Che Rhodes, head of UofL’s glass program, and his students will give a glass-blowing demonstration at the Cressman Center hotshop, 100 E. Main St., 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Concept & Execution, an exhibit of student-produced works, opens at the Schneider Hall galleries on Belknap Campus, between Grawemeyer Hall and Lutz Hall, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. It will include glass art produced with a variety of techniques, including blowing, casting and slumping of hot glass; and polishing and sandblasting of cold work.
Friday, June 11:
- First Friday Trolley Hop southern route will include Concept & Execution. The Speed Art Museum also is a stop.
- First Friday Trolley Hop downtown route will include a reception at the Cressman Center for an exhibit of past work by Sutherland Artists-in-Residence in UofL’s glass program, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
- Reception for Louisville Lights: Historical Designs from Blum Ornamental Glass, an exhibit of designs from the Louisville glass company dating from the 1870s to the 1950s. It includes such styles as 19th century academic, art nouveau, art deco and modernism. UofL critical and curatorial studies students organized the exhibit. Christ Church Cathedral, Bishop’s Hall, 421 S. Second St., 5 p.m. to 8 pm.
