“College for a Day” is open to boys and girls. Morning and afternoon sessions, each about two hours long, will be based on the scouting merit badge program but are designed to appeal to all participants. Scouts who attend may be able to earn or apply work toward their merit badges.
UofL’s Signature Partnership program is hosting the event in conjunction with the Lincoln Heritage Council of the Boy Scouts of America and other area youth organizations, including the Boys and Girls Clubs of Kentuckiana, Louisville Central Community Centers, the Louisville mayor’s Office for Youth Development, Metro United Way and the Louisville Urban League.
Enrollment will be limited to about 25 students in each subject area. A fee of $15 will cover costs for program materials and a lunch cookout at the Red Barn. Financial assistance may be available for people who are unable to pay the fee.
“College for a Day is a unique opportunity to share UofL’s faculty expertise and facilities with some of our brightest young minds,” said Daniel Hall, vice president for community engagement. “Our goal is to inspire our youth to get a taste of the college experience and begin to prepare for their higher education. We also see this as a complement to the city’s 55,000 Degrees and 15,000 Degree programs.”
UofL’s Signature Partnership collaborates with public and private organizations, schools and government to improve the educational, health, economic and social status of underserved students and families in the Louisville area.
Parents who attend with their children can consult with UofL admissions and financial aid representatives and take tours of campus in the morning.
