    UofL Today with Mark Hebert

    1.) WHAS-TV, Great Day Live

    Mondays at 9:30 a.m.

    UofL’s Mark Hebert has a story about UofL and talks with Rachel Platt and Terry Meiners about campus events. Segments can be found on YouTube. WLKY-TV also runs the UofL stories on their Saturday morning newscasts. This week featured Andrea Behrman and locomotor training for kids.

     

    2.) Radio Show

    Airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 6 p.m. (except holidays like Labor Day) on 93.9 FM The Ville; replayed on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

    Hebert hosts two weekly 30-minute programs focusing on research, programs, successful students and insights from UofL’s faculty experts. This week’s schedule:

    4.) Book-in-Common author to visit UofL

    “Hidden America” author Jeanne Marie Laskas will visit UofL on Tuesday, Sept. 27. Included are a free writing workshop (4-5:15pm, Floyd Theater) and keynote lecture with book signing (7 p.m., SAC Multi-Purpose Room). The writing workshop will help students get started on the Composition Contest, which awards prizes for first-year and upper class student winners in written and digital categories.

    5.) Webinar focuses on ‘Building Research Capacity’

    This webinar explores effective methods for building research capacity that optimize the return on institutional research investments.

    6.) Color printing available at Art Library

    The Art Library now offers color printing for 70 cents a page, on both tabloid and letter size paper. Free scanning to a thumb drive or to an email attachment is also available. The Art Library is in Schneider Hall, and is open to all UofL students, faculty, staff, and the public.

    7.) HSC Research Forum: iRIS & SPIN

    The HSC Research Forum will feature two talks: Dr. Ron Gregg, PhD and Chair of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics will present “eProposal: Electronic Submission of Grants at UofL with iRIS – No More PCFs!” and Will Metcalf from the EVPRI’s Office will discuss “SPIN & Help Finding Funding.” This forum is co-sponsored by the Executive Vice President for Health Affairs and Vice Dean for Research, School of Medicine.

    Are you interested in experiencing a 21st century active learning space firsthand? Are you wondering what types of pedagogies, technologies, and tools active learning spaces might require?     The School of Public Health and Information Sciences is hosting the inaugural Woodson Lecture featuring Jonathan Samet, MD, Distinguished Professor & Chair, Dept. of Preventive Medicine, USC Keck School of Medicine, and Director, USC Institute for Global Health. Dr. Samet will present “The Never-Ending Story of Tobacco and Health.” The Woodson Lectureship Endowment, which is providing support for this program, was established to bring national and international public health leaders to UofL.

    12.) Archaeologist Morag Kersel on ‘The Lure of the Relic: Collecting the Holy Land’

    Why have people long desired to collect archaeological artifacts from the Holy Land? Professor Morag Kersel (DePaul University), an internationally-recognized expert in the archaeology of Israel and Jordan, explores this question in her lecture “The Lure of the Relic: Collecting the Holy Land.” This talk is part of an ongoing series of Lectures in Archaeology presented by the University of Louisville History Department and the Kentucky Society of the Archaeological Institute of America.
