    UofL has an emergency evacuation plan for Belknap Campus. The Department of Environmental Health and Safety requests that all employees review the plan, which includes buildings and evacuation routes for foot, bicycle and vehicular traffic.     1.) Begin PRIDE week with brunch, AIDS walk

    Sept. 21; Brunch 11:30 a.m., UofL Cultural Center, Multipurpose Room; Walk 1 p.m., UofL Team meets at steps of Kentucky Center, 501 W. Main
    Brunch hosted by Community Empowerment Center. We invite you to come “get your eat on” before we get our walk on at the Louisville AIDS Walk. The mission of the Community Empowerment Center is to provide an open and affirming place for all to explore their unique individual spiritual journey. Our goal is to serve the spiritual, social, physical, and emotional needs of the community.

    2.) Flu shot week starts Monday

    Students, faculty and staff can get free flu shots through Campus Health Services ($5 for retirees). Shot clinics start Sept. 22 on Belknap and Health Sciences Center campuses. A full schedule and consent form can be found here. Download, print and complete the consent form for fastest service. You must show your UofL ID to get the free shot.

    3.) Reminder: IT Preventive Maintenance occurs every Friday night

    As the semester is now in full swing, please remember that Information Technology’s weekly preventive maintenance window is 10 p.m.  to 2 a.m. every Friday night. During this time period, enterprise systems (e.g. Blackboard, email, wireless, instant messaging, PeopleSoft, SharePoint, ULink, voice and data services, etc.) may be offline for required maintenance. If you choose to work during this period, please note that systems may be taken offline without notice, and you may lose work.

    4.) HSC Town Hall meeting planned for Tuesday

    Sept. 23, 5 p.m., HSC Auditorium

    Join David Dunn, executive vice president for health affairs, and the deans of the four health-related schools at a Town Hall meeting. Dunn and the deans will each provide short status reports and then open the floor to questions. Pizza, water and soft drinks will be served at the conclusion of the session, approximately 5:30 p.m.

     

    5.) Deadline extended to nominate outstanding staff performers

    Deadline Sept. 26

    The Office of the President has extended the deadline for nominations for Outstanding Performance Awards. The awards recognize classified and professional/administrative staff for their outstanding performance and commitment to service. Recipients receive plaques, a $1,000 cash award and a letter of appreciation for their personnel files. President James Ramsey also hosts a reception in their honor.

    6.) Faculty: Learn about and share mobile apps for teaching and learning

    September 25, 3 to 5 p.m., Delphi Lab, Ekstrom Library

    Come visit our “Appy Hour” open house and join us for informal conversation about how mobile apps are being used across the curriculum and changing the way we teach our students. Share your favorite iOS or Android apps along with your success story. See what your colleagues are doing with mobile apps both in and out of the classroom. Beverages and hors d’oeuvres will be served so pre-registration is required.

    This symposium will feature Advanced Heart Failure Research (AHFR) investigators, who will present novel experimental models for studying and innovative approaches for treating advanced heart failure. Presenters: Steven Koenig, PhD; Guruprasad Giridharan, PhD; Yu Wang, PhD; Leslie Sherwood, DVM; Gretel Monreal, PhD; Kevin Soucy, PhD; and Mike Sobieski.

    10.) Awards ceremony, keynote address and reception

    Research!Louisville presents awards to the winners of the four-day scientific poster competitions. Keynote to follow features Stefano Bonassi, PhD, who will present From Exposure Assessment to P4 Medicine. P4 medicine is short for Predictive, Preventive, Personalized and Participatory Medicine. The premise is that, over the next 20 years, medical practice will be revolutionized by biotechnology to manage a person’s health instead of a person’s disease. Bonassi will discuss the scientific and clinical features of several systems medicine platforms.
