    2.) Benefits Tip: Home delivery for maintenance medications

    The Express Scripts Pharmacy plan requires an annual “Select Home Delivery Option” for maintenance medications. Those are prescription drugs taken regularly to treat ongoing conditions.  If you are utilizing retail for your maintenance medications today and already made an opt-out decision previously, be prepared to make a decision to stay at retail or move to the mail-order pharmacy again by contacting Express Scripts or the KYRx Coalition. Open Enrollment is Oct. 17 to 31.

    3.) Free flu shots for students, faculty and staff today on the Shelby campus

    Oct. 14

    Students, faculty and staff can get free flu shots through Campus Health Services ($5 for retirees) today from 11:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Burhans Hall, Room 114, on the Shelby campus. A full schedule and a consent form are at http://louisville.edu/campushealth.  Download, print and complete the consent form for fastest service. You must have your UofL ID with you to get a free flu shot.

    6.) Watson Conference begins Thursday

    You are invited to the 10th biennial Thomas R. Watson Conference, which investigates what it means to be an engaged faculty member in today’s changing higher education landscape.     7.) Join PEACC for ‘Partying for Prevention’

Partying for Prevention is a celebration of the community violence prevention efforts in Louisville. The concert features local vocal artists kRi & Hettie.     8.) Faculty encouraged to assign BIC essay contest for undergraduates

    First Year Initiatives is once again teaming up with i2a to sponsor the Book-in-Common essay contest for first-year students and upperclass students based on this year’s text, “This I Believe.” Faculty are encouraged to assign “This I Believe” essays for credit or extra credit in their undergraduate courses and to promote the contest to students. Top first-year prize is a $350 scholarship and top upperclass prize is a $100 scholarship. Essay contest deadline: Dec 3.

    Timeslots available Monday-Friday and weekends in November, Davidson Hall, Room 316

    Recruiting participants age 19 to 30 who ended a dating relationship in the past year and experienced many times when this ex-partner verbally attacked, isolated or controlled you; withheld information; denied you resources. You’re ineligible if you were ever married or are experiencing current relationship violence. You’ll complete questionnaires and recall events from your past relationship. Two 1-hour sessions,$25 compensation. IRB#13.0044

    11.) McConnell Center Talk: Is America Too Big?

    In this free, public McConnell Center talk, Donald Livingston, PhD, professor emeritus of philosophy at Emory University, will consider the scale of American democracy and whether downsizing or secession is desirable and/or feasible in the 21st century. Livingston is the author of Rethinking the American Union for the Twenty-First Century and is considered an expert on the political philosophy and writings of the Scottish philosopher David Hume.

    Robert P. Friedland, MD, a UofL professor of neurology, will discuss Influences of the microbiota on stroke and neurodegenerative disorders. Dr. Friedland is a clinical and research neurologist devoted to the study of brain disorders associated with aging. His work has focused on clinical and biological issues in Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders; dementia; Alzheimer’s disease; brain ageing; prevention; neurogeriatrics; and behavioral neurology.
