    DID YOU KNOW?

     

    Unitas Tower is a co-ed, 300-resident dormitory that houses first-year students. It is named for Johnny Unitas, a legendary UofL quarterback from 1951 to 1954 who was inducted in the NFL Hall of Fame in 1979. Among his many accomplishments, he threw at least one touchdown pass in 47 NFL straight games.

    1.) VPN upgrade scheduled for Nov. 28

    UofL’ s Virtual Private Network (VPN) will be upgraded to the latest software version during the regular Preventative Maintenance (PM) period, 10 p.m. – 2 a.m. Friday, Nov. 28. Users may experience a brief outage sometime during the PM window. Access to all protected university resources, such as the H: and I: drives, will be affected.

    2.) Network Attached Storage (NAS) drives offline Nov. 28

    The NAS server that provides network disk space storage will be upgraded and unavailable during the regular Preventative Maintenance (PM) period, 10 p.m. – 2 a.m. Friday, Nov. 28. This upgrade has been rescheduled from its original date of Oct. 31. Access to all individual or departmental remote disk drives such as the H: and I: drives will be affected.

    3.) UofL Today sets holiday publishing schedule

    The UofL Today email is published Monday through Friday. Due to the upcoming university holidays, UofL Today will not be sent out Nov. 27-28 and Dec. 25 to Jan. 2. The deadline for Dec. 1 announcements is 10 a.m., Nov. 26; and for Jan. 5 announcements is 10 a.m., Dec. 24.

    4.) A&S All Star Ricky Jones presents Game Theory: The Politics of Race and Sport

    Nov. 29; lecture at 10 a.m.; coffee and pastries at 9:30 a.m., Gheens Science Hall and Rauch Planetarium

    Add some brain to your brawn before the big UofL vs. UK game with the 4th and final installment of the 2014 A&S All Star Pre-Game Educational Series. Ricky Jones, Pan-African Studies professor, will present his “game theory, which is rooted in the belief that black athletes ranging from Jack Johnson and Jackie Robinson to Muhammad Ali and Cookie Gilchrist have transformed their sports, and in doing so, have impacted American society in unique ways that perhaps only sports can.
