    DID YOU KNOW?

    UofL houses about 50 Kentucky State Police officers for the Kentucky Derby. They will stay in Unitas Hall during the long weekend. Also for the event, about 20 employees from NBC Sports will be staying at the Arch Apartments, one of UofL’s affiliates.

    Can low blood glucose extend health?  Dr. Paul Epstein will try to answer that question with a grant from the NIH – one of five UofL faculty who received external grants and awards this week totaling more than $600,000.

    1.) Summer parking availability

    All valid University of Louisville parking permits may park in the Orange permit areas next to Miller Hall and the Floyd Street Garage during the following time periods: April 29 through June 30.

    2.) Pegasus Parade leads to Thursday street closings near HSC

    Traffic and parking around the Health Sciences Center will be affected by the Pegasus Thursday, May 5. Several streets will be closed, including Gray Street from Hancock Street to Preston Street, from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Broadway from Floyd Street to Preston Street will be closed from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., and Preston Street from Gray Street to Broadway will be closed from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Parking will be prohibited all day on Gray Street from Hancock to Preston.

    3.) Oaks, Derby to force parking, traffic changes around Belknap Campus

    Traffic and parking on and around Belknap Campus will be affected by the Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby, May 6 and 7. Parking will not be allowed on Third Street or Floyd Street all day on Friday until 9 p.m. and Saturday until 11 p.m. No through traffic will be allowed from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. either day on Central Avenue from Taylor Boulevard to Floyd Street.  And from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. both days, all southbound traffic on Third Street will be rerouted onto Eastern Parkway.

    4.) Oaks & Derby UofL Parking at PJCS

    May 6 and 7, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium, Platinum Lot T

    Staff and Student parking rate $10 with valid UofL parking hangtag

    UofL Staff and students can park at PJCS for $10 in the Platinum T lot for both Oaks and Derby. The T lot is located in the SE corner of Central Ave. and Floyd Street. Access to the lot is via the Floyd St. entry.

    5.) Dependent Tuition Remission information available

    Attention Employees with Dependents: If your dependent is a new student for Summer or Fall 2016 or has not been enrolled in the last year, you must fill out a tuition remission form. For all returning dependent tuition remission users since Spring 2016, a form is no longer needed. HR will now run a process to identify returning dependents and determine eligibility.

    6.) Employee Tuition Remission information available

    Attention Employees: Class registration is underway for the Summer and Fall 2016 semesters. As a reminder, employees do not need to submit a request for employee tuition remission.     Though we hope we never encounter an active shooter situation on the University of Louisville campus, we know preparation and advance planning can guide our actions and help reduce the negative impacts of such a tragic event. Please join us for our Active Shooter Training where we will provide guidance to faculty and staff who may encounter an active shooter situation. It also describes what you can expect from responding law enforcement officers.

    10.) Openings Remain for Delphi U Online Summer 2016

    Openings still remain for the Summer offering of Delphi U Online. Get many of your questions and concerns about online courses answered in this engaging eight-week long workshop. Participants will learn two primary concepts: What it is like to be an online learner and how to effectively teach online. This is for full and part-time faculty planning to teach a new fully online course or enhance an online course between Summer 2016 and Summer 2017.     12.) Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences Grand Rounds

    May 5, 11:30 a.m.- 1 p.m.

    Dr. Amanda McDonald, PGY-5, Addiction Psychiatry Fellow, will present, “An Introduction to Osteopathy.” Participants will review the history of osteopathy, be introduced to the osteopathic philosophy and its relevance in psychiatry, learn about the osteopathic structural exam, become familiar with modalities of osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT), and learn about osteopathy in the cranial field & osteopathic cranial techniques.
