    Former UofL defensive lineman Sheldon Rankins was the 12th overall draft pick in last week’s NFL draft. Selected by the New Orleans Saints, Rankins is just the 13th Cardinal Football player drafted in the first round since 1942.

    1.) WHAS-TV, Great Day Live

    Mondays at 9:30 a.m. UofL’s Mark Hebert has a story about UofL and talks with Rachel Platt and Terry Meiners about campus events. Full segments can be found on WHAS11’s RSS feed, while individual story packages can be found on YouTube.

    2.) Radio Show

    Airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 6 p.m. on 93.9 FM The Ville; replayed on Saturday and Sunday at 8 a.m. Hebert hosts two weekly 30-minute programs focusing on research, programs, successful students and insights from UofL’s faculty experts. This week’s schedule:

    Though Cinco de Mayo doesn’t fall on a Monday this year, there are plenty of meatless Mexican recipes that can be carried over from ‘Meatless Monday’ to fit your Cinco de Mayo celebration on Thursday, May 5.

    6.) 20-minute Yoga for everybody available

    Join Get Healthy Now for Ya Ya Yoga, a 20-minute, 100-percent hands-on gentle yoga class that you can do on campus and in your street clothes. Taught by Laurie LeCompte a 500-hour certified yoga instructor.

    7.) UofL participating in National Bike Challenge

    May 1 to September 30

    Showcase your support for a healthy lifestyle and sustainable transportation by competing with your colleagues to earn the coveted title of most active cyclists on campus. Register online for this free summer-long challenge. Your miles cycled will count toward the UofL total, as well as qualify you for great individual prizes, including the grand prize: A $400 voucher to a local bike shop courtesy of Get Healthy Now and the Sustainability Council.

    9.) Counseling Center closed on Oaks Day

    10.) Conference presentation opportunity available for IT, Library staff

    November 10, Western Kentucky University

    The 2016 Kentucky Convergence Conference be hosted by WKU Nov. 10-11, 2016. Convergence annually brings together professionals in information technology, academic libraries, online learning, and instructional design from public and private colleges and universities across Kentucky and the surrounding states. The conference call for proposals is now open. Deadline to submit proposals is July 1.

    11.) Surplus Warehouse to reopen Wednesday

    May 4, Surplus Warehouse, 1901 S. Floyd St. on Belknap Campus

    Warehouse hours are 8 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m. Department representatives may select items for department use only. There is no charge if the department representatives remove the item(s) from Surplus. Departments may request for a fee that Physical Plant deliver the reserved items by completing the Chargeable Service Request online form.

    12.) Cultural Center graduation celebration planned

    May 12, 6- 8:30 p.m., Bigelow Hall, Miller Information Technology Center, Belknap Campus

    The Graduation Celebration is an annual event where the purpose is to pay homage to the past, while celebrating the future and endless possibilities of all graduating underrepresented students at UofL. This year’s celebration will feature a graduating student keynote speaker, music that will reflect the occasion, and individual recognition.

    13.) Applications being accepted for Community Engagement grants

    The Office of Community Engagement Faculty Grants program fosters UofL faculty and staff initiatives within the west Louisville and Jefferson County community. Grant focuses on infrastructure development, research and non-research projects which hold a community participatory action perspective. Up to three mini-grants (between $2,500 to $10,000) will be awarded.

    14.) Green Tip: Leave the driving to TARC this Derby season

    Let TARC be your “designated driver” for Derby Week. As always, it’s free with UofL ID. TARC will drive you to Churchill Downs all week on existing routes that will detour away from the track starting at 4:30 p.m. for Oaks and Derby. Routes providing the closest access are: #4 – Fourth St (Downtown-Old Louisville-UofL-Iroquois); #6 – Sixth St (Downtown-Iroquois); and #29 – Eastern Pkwy (St. Matthews-Highlands-UofL-Shively).
