Eleven University of Louisville Army ROTC students and three Air Force ROTC students became commissioned officers May 12. The new Army officers bring to 427 the total number of officers UofL’s Army ROTC has commissioned during its 35-year history.

The Harold Adams Award was presented to Dr. Kathy Pendleton on April 17 during the UofL Annual Student Awards program. Pendleton has been at UofL for almost 18 years serving as assistant director in the Disability Resource Center, director of the Counseling Center, and director of Student Advocacy and Support Services. Currently, Pendleton is the director of TRIO Student Support Services.

Gray Street Farmers Market opens May 18

The School of Public Health and Information Sciences is happy to announce that the 9th season of the Gray Street Farmers Market will begin this Thursday, May 18. The farmers market will be open every Thursday through Oct. 26, rain or shine, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on UofL’s Health Sciences Center. Our vendors sell the finest in local farm products including fruits, vegetables, breads, honey, canned goods, lunch and more.

The public is invited to a School of Nursing Baby Shower on May 17 supporting the purchase of a high-fidelity birthing simulator for student learning. At the free event, you can watch birthing simulator demonstrations, enjoy refreshments and play to win prizes, including a football autographed by Coach Bobby Petrino, a basketball autographed by Darrell Griffith and a handmade UofL blanket. 22nd Annual RBAA Golf Scramble
June 24, 7 a.m. Registration; Crossings Golf Club; $60
The Red Barn Alumni Association (RBAA) 22nd Annual Golf Scramble is Saturday, June 24, at the Crossings Golf Club in Brooks, Kentucky. Registration is at 7 a.m. with shotgun start at 8 a.m. The $60 registration includes 18 holes of championship golf, cart and lunch. For the 8th year, the winning team goes to Pinehurst Course #2 and #4 to compete in the Acura College Alumni Team Championship, October 26-29. Registration deadline Monday, June 12. Submit your artwork for the annual Open Walls faculty/staff art exhibit
June 12-29, opening reception June 14, noon to 2 p.m.
The annual show for faculty and staff will run from June 12 through June 29 in the Photographic Archives gallery, part of Archives & Special Collections, in the Ekstrom Library. The exhibit is an opportunity for UofL employees who are not professional or exhibited artists to share their work. Employee visual artists who want to participate should submit the registration form via email by 5 p.m. June 2, 2017. Click here for the form. Carnosine for Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) Study
The UofL Health Sciences Center is seeking PAD patients between age 50-80 with and without claudication to determine whether Carnosine/Placebo supplementation for 6 months improves walking ability. The Kosair Children’s Pediatric Clinical Research Unit (KCPCRU) is conducting a clinical trial looking at the safety and effectiveness of a potential new medicine to treat high blood pressure in children 6-<18 years of age. Eligible participants may be currently treated or untreated for hypertension and will be closely followed by University of Louisville physicians throughout the study. The UofL Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit at Norton Children’s Hospital is conducting a research study to evaluate the effect of an investigational product on childhood obesity. White and African American male and female subjects 10 to less than 14 years old who are overweight, obese or normal weight may be eligible.
