    The International Student and Scholar Services held its fourth International Meet and Greet Luncheon last week, co-sponsored by Louisville Sister Cities. The event provides anopportunity to meet the university’s non-immigrant student and scholar population representing more than 100 countries. Louisville Sister Cities has been collaborating with UofL for 50 years with scholarships and programming.

    Beyond simply decreasing your stress, this evidence-based KORU workshop will help you learn mindfulness through the practice of specific skills that calm and focus your mind and through the practice of meditation. If you are feeling pressured and stressed, or are just interested in learning a new skill that can enrich your life, these classes are for you. Beginners and experienced meditators welcome.

    Nia is a sensory-based movement practice that draws from disciplines of the martial arts, dance arts and healing arts. Every class offers a unique combination of 52 moves that corresponds with the main areas of the body: the base, the core, and upper extremities.

    4.) COB hosting ‘fast pitch’ competition

    April 1, 3 p.m., ollege of Business, PNC Horn Auditorium

    Free and open to the public

    Student speakers will deliver a 90-second “fast pitch” speech. Judges from the business community will select the first through third place winners. Sponsored by Northwestern Mutual.

    5.) Judges needed for Neuroscience Day

    The trainee poster competition at the 26th Annual Neuroscience Day still needs judges. Judges are needed 8:30-8:45 a.m. (information session) and 10 -11:30 a.m. (round 1) or 12-2 p.m. (round 2).     7.) EpiHour focuses on racial patterns of anemia and leukemia

    March 31, noon to 1 p.m., Room 103, School of Public Health and Information Sciences Building, HSC

    Dr. Frank Groves, Associate Professor, Epidemiology Dept., will present: “Contrasting Racial Patterns of Anemia & Leukemia in US Preschool Children – Are They Related?” Black children under 5 years of age have lower hemoglobin levels, but also lower incidence of leukemia, than white children. Similar racial disparities are evident in birth weight and transferrin saturation (a biomarker of iron status). Might iron account for the inverse association between birth weight and childhood leukemia?

    What exactly is “public art” and how do we distinguish it from what we see in traditional settings such as museums and galleries? By tracing the history of public works in the United States, and beginning with the Public Works of Art Project (PWAP), this lecture will examine the role of art outside museum walls, its evolution over the past eighty years, and current curatorial approaches to programming exhibitions outdoors and in public spaces.

    The Department of Microbiology and Immunology Seminar Series presents a PhD dissertation, “Identification of host factors required for Yersinia pestis macrophage intracellular survival and the impact on vacuole maturation, acidification and trafficking” by Michael Connor, PhD candidate in the lab of Matthew Lawrenz, PhD.

    10.) June Delphi U application deadline extended

    June 6-10, Burhans Hall, Shelby Campus

    The application deadline for the June 6-10 session of Delphi U has been extended to Friday, April 22. This free, 4.5-day workshop offers faculty the chance to work with colleagues and Delphi Center staff to incorporate best practices when designing, revising, or delivering online courses.     The Speed School Materials Science and Engineering (MS&E) Research Group is sponsoring a workshop on materials research opportunities in and needs of the Conn Center, including on proposals and grants.     Rangaraj Gopalraj, MD, Assistant Professor of Geriatric Medicine at UofL School of Medicine, and Elizabeth Cash, PhD, Assistant Professor at UofL School of Medicine, will present “The New Terminology For Dementia.” At the end of this presentation the audience will have better understanding of dementia, mild cognitive impairment, new terminology per DSM-V, implications for clinical practice, and when to refer to neuropsychologist. CME category 1 is available for both AAFP & ACCME accreditation.

    Please join us for Ob/Gyn Grand Rounds in the ACB Basement Auditorium. Our speaker will be Casey Kinman, MD, one of our Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery Fellows. Her topic is “Female Sexual Dysfunction,” where she will review the female sexual response cycle, discuss key point in evaluating a patient and review treatments for female sexual dysfunction.
