    The new and improved VisualDX database and app is available for free from Kornhauser Library. VisualDX is a tool created to improve diagnostic accuracy at the point of care.

    2.) HSC Fitness Center to be closed part of Thursday

    March 3, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., HSC Fitness Center

    The HSC Fitness Center will be closed Thursday between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. due to the replacement of the building’s water main. The gym will be open from 6 to 9 a.m. and then plans on re-opening at 4 p.m. pending the completion of the water main replacement.

    Tuesdays & Thursdays 12:00-12:50 p.m., Get Healthy Now Wellness Center at Humana Gym

    A strong core can improve athletic performance, posture, and can reduce back pain. Using weights, balls, bands, gliding discs and your own body weight as resistance, this class will help strengthen your core, sculpt your body and burn calories. Modifications for all fitness levels are provided.

    Join Get Healthy Now’s Water Fitness class for the 2016 spring semester. The benefits of this class include increased energy, better sleep, relief from joint pain and more. Suitable for all fitness levels and no swimming skills needed (hair can stay dry or not).

    6.) Brandeis School of Law hosting Kentucky Court of Appeals arguments

    March 8, 9 a.m., Allen Courtroom, Brandeis School of Law

    The Kentucky Court of Appeals will hear appellate arguments in the Allen Courtroom at the Brandeis School of Law on March 8.  The Court will hear arguments in three cases involving negligence and strict liability issues, a non-compete clause, and interference with contractual rights.

    8.) Discussion on the Indiana Wilderness Trail

    David Ruckman, Indiana Bicentennial Commission, will speak on efforts to document the “Wilderness Road,” a series of buffalo traces and other pathways that brought pioneers west to the Indiana territory. Locust Grove is a member of A&S’s Center for Arts and Culture Partnerships.

    9.) Discussion on felony disenfranchisement and the ‘Smart on Crime’ era today

    With recent criminal justice reforms, Kentucky seems to have entered the smart on crime era. Yet although restoration of voting rights improves reintegration, Kentucky still denies the ballot to former felons. Cherie Dawson-Edwards, associate professor of Criminal Justice, discusses felon disenfranchisement and its effects on democracy and racial justice in the third lecture of the spring 2016 social change lecture series on Crime & Punishment.

    11.) UofL’s Sustainability Council Sustainability Scholars Roundtable is back

    March 4, 10 to 11 a.m., Room 137, Life Sciences, Belknap Campus

    UofL’s Sustainability Council is relaunching the Sustainability Scholars Roundtable with a focus on bringing researchers together around potential interdisciplinary grants that we could pursue through collaborative proposals. We’ll gather monthly (March, 4, April 8) to share ideas about potential grants, decide upon common areas of interest, and explore local sustainability challenges that could be addressed through our research efforts. Researchers from all disciplines are welcome.

Wiehe is associate professor in the department of pediatrics at Indiana University School of Medicine and director of the community health engagement program at Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute in Indianapolis. She will present, “Engaging Patients to Improve Clinical and Health Services Research.”
