Inspired by our Celebration keynote speaker, Dr. Jose Antonio Bowen, we’re expanding the conversation to cover not only mobile apps, but also web apps, software, and other technologies that can be used to change the way we reach and teach our students.     8.) HSC Design/Print/iTechXpress/Photo/Video is moving to new location

    UofL’s Health Science Campus location of Design and Print, iTechXpress technology store, Photography and Video services is moving. Our new office will be right down the hall in room 54 on the lower level of the Dental building on HSC. We will continue to offer uninterrupted service to the HSC community from this new location.     9.) Campus Pack Wikis, Blogs, and Journals within Blackboard are being replaced

    Campus Pack Wikis, Blogs, & Journals are being discontinued in favor of Blackboard integrated social media tools in the summer of 2016. The last day Campus Pack tools will be available is April 31, 2016; however, Blackboard integrated wikis, blogs and journals will continue to be a robust alternative to providing rich interaction within your class. If you want to retain a copy of materials created in Campus Pack Wikis, Blogs, or Journals, please follow the directions on the Blackboard Help Tab.

    10.) Speed Museum research help available

    With the reopening of the Speed Art Museum, the Bridwell Art Library has re-released its online guide to researching the artwork found in the museum. The website includes a link to the most recent guidebook, which can be found in the Art Library. You can also learn about how to do research in the library’s ephemeral files, which span almost 100 years of exhibits.

    11.) GSC Educational Justice Variety Show and Fundraiser scheduled

    Benefitting Black Lives Matter, Family Scholar House, and KY Refugee Ministries, this event will combine performances and presentations around the theme of Educational Justice.     12.) Sex after 60 topic of final spring optimal aging lecture

    Terry Singer, PhD, dean of the Kent School of Social Work at UofL, will present a conversation on the often taboo topic of older adult sexuality and relationships. Most people believe that after a certain age, attractiveness and sexual appeal are lost. This presentation will show how this belief is false. Singer will share his lifelong professional expertise in adult relationships and older adult sexuality, providing listeners with techniques they can use to keep intimacy alive. The Institute’s Optimal Aging Lecture Series will resume in September for the fall season.

    Lecture title: “Improving higher education attainment for all students: The need for a comprehensive approach.” Laura W. Perna is the James S. Riepe Professor, founding Executive Director of the Alliance for Higher Education and Democracy (AHEAD), and chair-elect of the Faculty Senate at the University of Pennsylvania. Her research identifies how social structures, educational practices, and public policies promote and limit college access and success.

    As part of the Graduate Student Council’s 2016 Research Conference, Dave McIntosh, Associate Dean for Urban Health Innovation and Chief Diversity Officer for the School of Medicine, will deliver a keynote speech centered on the theme of Educational Justice in STEM+H fields. Dr. McIntosh will offer faculty, administrators, and students a fresh perspective on the obstacles facing traditionally marginalized students in STEM+H plus tools for overcoming these obstacles.     The College of Arts and Sciences presents monthly lunch and lecture series, “Meet the Professor.” Daniel Krebs is Professor of History with specializations in military history, colonial and revolutionary America. His talk will focus on the military life from the 16th through the 18th centuries in Europe and America. The military life was very dynamic and full of movements, and crossing any border – political, spatial, social, or cultural – was a difficult, even dangerous process.

    20.) Workshop: Building Capacity for Working in Settings with Victims of Trauma

    March 29, 6 to 7:30 p.m., Health Sciences, Instructional Building, 500 Preston St., Room 202

    Dr. Heffner-Rhema’s workshop will introduce interpreters (and all interested) to a conceptual framework that will aid their work with individuals who have experienced trauma. It will provide a greater understanding of the impact of trauma and will enhance their role as an integral part of the response team. Interpreters will gain improved capacity to manage in a crisis, therapeutic or other setting in which individuals with trauma histories are served.
