    1.) Opening Reception for Sewol: Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter by Moon-he Baik

    March 11, 5 to 7 p.m., Cressman Center for Visual Arts, 100 East Main St.

    Free

    During her year sabbatical, Baik experimented with crafting fiber materials, becoming self-taught in free-motion sewing techniques. The creation of pieces for the exhibit was a departure from the traditional spatial methods she typically employs as an interior designer. Instead, Sewol features two- and three-dimensional threadwork forms that continue to incorporate her traditional use of pattern, color, and Korean motifs.

    4.) DEHS Lab Safety & Hazardous Waste Training with Radiation Safety Orientation

    March 12, 9 a.m. to noon, Donald Baxter I, Auditorium

    Recently hired lab employees who work with chemicals should attend this training. Recurrent training for lab employees is required every three years. Individuals who will work with or around radioactive materials should attend the Radiation Safety Orientation session, which is from 11:00 a.m. to noon. Bring employee/student ID number to sign in. Attendees can pre-register at www.louisville.edu/dehs, however advanced registration is not required.

    5.) Green Tip: UofL awarded Tree Campus USA status, tree-huggers wanted

    For the 5th year in a row, the Arbor Day Foundation has recognized UofL as a Tree Campus USA. With over 2,500 trees representing dozens of species, UofL has developed a Belknap Tree Tour and Tree Inventory to help you use our campus as an educational tool and a Campus Tree Care Plan to ensure responsible management. All of this was developed by the Sustainability Council’s Campus Tree Advisory Committee, which welcomes you to participate in our spring meeting today at 10 a.m. in Ekstrom W210.

    6.) Parkinson’s Disease: Updates on etiology and treatment options

    Dr. Robert Friedland, UofL professor of neurology, and Dr. Kathrin LaFaver, UofL assistant professor of neurology, will host this seminar and present New Perspectives on the Mechanisms Initiating Neuronal Loss in Parkinson’s Disease: What Can be Done Today? and New Therapies for Parkinson’s Disease in 2015: Perspectives on Medical and Surgical Treatment Options. 1.5 CME and 1.8 CEU credits are available to MDs, DOs and RNs who attend.     GI Motility Clinic, Frazier Hospital

    The UofL GI Motility Clinic is conducting a clinical research study to evaluate the use of Aprepitant for the relief of nausea. Participants must be 18 or older and experience significant, chronic nausea and vomiting of gastric origin. This study is being conducted by Dr. Thomas Abell. hsppo# 12.0484

    9.) Prince Charles’s quest for harmony

    Professor David Cadman, University of Maryland and visiting professor, University College, London, will discuss Prince Charles’s ecological views on the eve of the royal visit to Louisville. Professor Cadman co-edited an anthology of the prince’s writings, “Speeches and Writings, 1968-2012.” The Filson Historical Society is a member of A&S’s Center for Arts and Culture Partnerships.     Kevin Gibson, author of “Louisville Beer: Derby City History on Draft,” will talk about ways that today’s brewers have drawn upon Louisville’s rich brewing heritage.     Former Congressman Romano Mazzoli will give a free, public talk, “Politics a la Carte: A Survey of Issues Local, National and International” as the 2014-15 Phi Beta Kappa lecture; sponsors are UofL’s College of Arts and Sciences and the Phi Beta Kappa Association of Kentuckiana, an honor society that fosters academic excellence and promotes education in the liberal arts and sciences. There will be a President’s reception immediately following the talk.

    Medicine Grand Rounds features Anupama Raghuram, MD, assistant professor of medicine in the division of infectious diseases at UofL. Dr. Raghuram will present Travel Medicine for the Primary Care Physician, focusing on the most common medical issues affecting returned travelers, warning signs associated with severe disease presentations and strategies for management of illness in the returning traveler.
